CrimsonGuard I am not trying to get into a discussion here, but I really take issue with your numbers. The 2011 Con Set sold out practically immediately and the 2012 set they added a 2nd production run, so that leads me to conclude that the ME sets have higher production numbers than the o-ring Con Sets and those production figures were about 1,150, combined boxed and bagged sets.
Hasbro (HAS) does not report detailed costs or production figures in their SEC quarterly filings (10Q) or their annual report (10K). Those reports do not even detail revenues or other financial data per toy line. The Morningstar reports have limited summary information extracted from the aforementioned SEC filings. So I am sorry, but I really do not have confidence in the numbers you presented and I think you may have underestimated the figures. Last edited by Formulazl1; 03-08-2018 at 07:01 AM.. |

No, I’m quite familiar with how Haslab works. The problem lies in the fact that Hasbro is only going to invest the time and effort towards an endeavor that nets a profit. Joe products barely break even. I’m sympathetic to the fact that some real die hard Joe fans will pony up for a Haslab Joe product, but not enough to even raise the eyebrow of execs at Hasbro. The DTC model was a flop before, so I see no reason for Hasbro to venture down that path again for any reason. They started with a Sail Barge because Star Wars is much more widely supported currently. It made sense to attempt a large scale project with that property because the probability of hitting goal was much higher. I’ve been in the Joe community long enough to know that some of us may support, while others just talk a lot. So again, my understanding of the platform is sound. It’s the logic that GI Joe would be selected as a property for Haslab that isn’t.

Hasbro will only use Haslab for products that they have media for. Transformers, Star Wars, Marvel, and now Power Rangers. Hasbro will not do anything with any of their lines unless they have media tie in or a movie. This is just another thing Hasbro is trying to drum up Star Wars sales since Disney has so much tied into the movies.
I understand that we all want to see Joe product and when I see people saying that their are not a lot of us and that when Hasbro put product out that it did not sell very well. I however think that the reason the product not selling was simply the movies were bad and turned off many fans and Hasbro planed the release of product terribly and that is what killed off the demand. Haslab will not be used for any Joe product unless they have a movies or another media out. I’m sorry, but Joe would be the very type of propert to succeed with the crowd funded system, which anecdotally supports the likelihood of a Joe HasLab project. |

I'm gently trying to let you know without letting you know that Haslab has no intention of producing Joe product. Without saying things directly, I am sure you are picking up what I am putting down. As for your passion for the product and Joe line...I am right there with you. Please continue that passion as I know I will as well. In a perfect world, we would get everything that we wanted. Unfortunately, we do not live in that world. Let's keep an eye on the Sail Barge and see how it fares. Should it's success open new doors for Joes, I will be the first to retract any previous statements and say that I was completely off base.

I think it will hit its goal. SW fans are selling off things right now to Pony up the $500. It will exceed goal in my estimation. It only helps our cause if it does.

I'm a backer and hope it meets the goal just for proof this can be done. I probably would have done a smaller sized vehicle or playset, but I guess they wanted to start with a bang with a Holy Grail item for Star Wars collectors, vintage to modern. This might be the future of 3 3/4 - 4" action figure toy collecting for the future with the impending closure of TRU and the general decline in retail toy sales (look at Lego).
I've backed Marauder's Kickstarters for Task Force, Valkries and now World War 2. I've backed the Club's efforts at their Joe Cons and the FSS, as well as Club Exclusives. This has been the only way to get Joe or military style action figures over the course of the last two years. Ask yourself - when was the last time you bought a G.I. Joe product at retail? If this initial HasLab venture funds, it unlocks possibilities for other items and toy lines. Sure, we would all love an updated U.S.S. Flagg, but let's be realistic. I'd love to see the Concept Vault Renegades' Coyote be a project. Or an updated G.I. Joe HQ playset if we want to go bigger.

I am not a backer, but I do hope it makes it. At this time they need to average about 100+ backers a day to hit the goal. That is over $50,000 a day.

It will get backed even if Hasbro has to buy the last thousand themselves. This would be an incredible embarrassment to Hasbro if it failed. Better to take the hit behind closed doors than publicly.
