I remember one morning (and i have no idea why) i went to my local Kmart and saw the 25th Flint and Storm Shadow. I couldn't believe what i saw. Grabbed Storm Shadow and took it home. Found the 5-packs a couple days later.
It was a good ten year run. Glad it happened. |

What's crazy is to think in relative terms: Ten Years = 1982-1992. We've gotten nearly as long of a run out of it this time as we did the first time.
Plus, two live-action movies. Highlights of the last ten years: 01. The Skystriker and Tomahawk re-release. 02. Wave TWO of 25th anniversary. I just remember it being sooo cool that it was continuing. So fun finding wave two. 03. GREAT Club figures. 04. 50th Anniversary Gung Ho, Retaliation CC and Storm Shadow. Its been a great ride. Can't wait to see what comes next. |

It was nice to get back to basics and have a regular white Storm Shadow on classic card again. For a while there he looked like an actor in a Chinese opera, wearing ornate gowns with red dragons and Arashikage symbols plastered all over him. It was an awful time lol.

Ok. Hasbro. That means we are due for a 35h Anniversary now. Then in 2 years we can have a 55th Anniversary. Let's see some figures in stores for these events. You can do it Hasbro!!!!

I loved seeing figures back on the shelf. But, I resisted for a LONG time. I'd passed over the new-sculpt era completely, as well as Sigma-Six. Never touched a thing, but it was fun seeing Joes on the shelves, even if they didn't do much for me...at the time. Partially budget related, partially culture related. I thought I was "cool" for a while there. ;-)
Here's how it all changed - My pal bought me the Snake Eyes: Declassified graphic novel for Christmas one year - I honestly can't remember the year. Probably a couple into the 25th. Reading it resparked my love for these characters - reminded me why I loved GI Joe. And that the love had never gone away. One day, I picked up a 4-pack with a DVD that was on sale - Just, you know, to see how they "felt". And they felt great! That was it. I started going back, and finding out all I had missed - I didn't even know about Hisstank, the Club, or all the exclusives that had been released in the interim when I'd abandoned Joe. And I was blown away. The 25th brought me back to Joe and 3 3/4 collecting, and I regret nothing. Well, I might regret a couple things, like Flint-arms, but for the most part, it's been a great ride, and I'm still enjoying it. |

I collected The real american hero line (2000) Spy Troops, Valor vs Venom lines they were fun, but I didn't get as excited as when I saw the 25th anniversary line in Lee's. I sold all my original stuff in the mid ninety's when I thought I was a grown-up. It was great to get all the classic versions with better articulation (except for the diaper crotch). When they started updating the classic vehicles like the Skyhawk and the Water Moccasin I was hooked. The advertising was great especially the PSA ads.

I still think some of the early 25th figures hold up well. I pretty much skipped all the o-ring/new sculpt whatever (early 2000s) Joes, just didn't have the money, room, or really interest in them (although I was still reading the comics). When I saw the 25th Ann. line in person, it was a weird mix of feelings, like "AWESOME! Really nicely sculpted/painted/articulated/accessorized Joes again!" and "Oh no...where will I get the money to collect a whole new line of figures?" I think I was mainlining Star Wars, Marvel Legends, and Jakks WWE stuff at the time, and that was already stretching my collecting budget. I bought the 2 5-packs anyway and was hooked. Then I saw the single carded figures, which brought back the vintage style "explosion" cardbacks, and that just killed me. My first single carded figure was Firefly. It hasn't been the perfect line, there's been ups and downs, but I still love the modern Joes.

Saw these two 5 packs on the entertainment earth website then did an internet search, pre-ordered them on the spot then saw them earlier and cheaper in Toy's R Us, cancelled my pre-order, told my buddy about them, they were released sometime during the 2007 comic con perhaps June of that year. And he was like naw, can't collect more shit, then he was like, damn I gotta have them, he lucked out too cause I got them for slightly cheaper than retail cause on Sunday vendors discount their merchandise by anywhere between 10-75 percent cause cash is lighter to carry then plastic toys. So I got them for him and I've been collecting ever since, he sold all his stuff 5 years ago to help pay for his wedding. And the rest is history.

I remember being on Yojoe.com the day the first images of wave 1 were leaked. Cobra officer, storm shadow, snake eyes, flint, and hooded cobra commander all with marvel legend style articulation. Was so pumped for it. I still have the pictures saved on my computer. I miss hitting target at 8 in the morning on a Thursday to see a fresh new wave of figures sitting there. It was really exciting. And finding the first wave of vehicles on the end caps of the registers. Oh man and getting six of the target exclusive vehicle big battle pack on clearance. God I miss those days.
