And what does Marvel gain by putting a non-Marvel property in the Marvel toyline. Yeah, there is kind of that technicality that Joe isn't Marvel.

But I think the big issues that is continually glossed over in this thread by most is that lines like Marvel Legends or Star Wars Black do NOT exist within a vacuum. They are built on strong brand foundations that include KID-CENTRIC PRODUCTS AND FEATURES. As much as collectors bemoan them, the 12" Titans series are STRONG sellers for Hasbro, as well as role play items like masks (they sell SO MANY of the cheap Star Wars lightsabers...) Right now, GI Joe does NOT have that foundation to work off of. And until they do, much of this discussion is moot.

I think a more apt re-title for this thread should simply be "Why can't there be GI Joe figures?", given that regardless of scale, the brand is on life support and there is a priest waiting in the hallway to offer final rites in the event that a last minute cinematic transfusion of MASK, Micronaut, and Visonaries branding and cross pollination can't pull up the profile of the line..

I thought I'd never collect anything but Joe and a few SW in 3 3/4" scale but I really wanted the 6" Boba Fett so I got him and have bought about 50 more Black Series 6"s since. I am not going to get into the argument if it's financially feasible for it to actually happen or not, I will say I'd love them to make this list:
Duke Scarlett Flint Gung-Ho Roadblock Snake Eyes CC Firefly Destro Baroness Storm Shadow Cobra Trooper Cobra Officer BAT Crimson Guard I'd like more but if we got those or even just 10 out of those to make a round number of 5 Joes and 5 Cobras I'd buy them all for sure. |

It seems to be a very particular segment of the fan base that wants it. And while I'd probably cherry pick (like I do with Star Wars Black), a line that barely supports a doze 3 inch releases per year will quite simply not support a black line outside of the rare exclusive. |

I guarantee that Hasbro's design teams have talked about it. And probably other concepts as well. But until they are ready to actually DO something, they aren't going to confirm anything.

Even if the reps are on the design team...Hasbro NEVER talks about anything until they are good and ready. Hasbro was denying the existence of Transformers Alternators Sunstreaker just a couple weeks before its grand reveal at a convention (after pre-production shots and computer listings had confirmed it).
I guarantee that Hasbro's design teams have talked about it. And probably other concepts as well. But until they are ready to actually DO something, they aren't going to confirm anything.

They claim that there just isn't enough consumer interest in the brand for them to expand on ideas for the brand so another scale of figures like Star Wars has is simply out of the question. Really sucks though, there is an unlimited potential of what could be done to make the brand successful but Hasbro's current strategy makes it appear as though they're pretty much done supporting it outside of a few exclusives sprinkled throughout the year.

It would defeat the entire point of GI Joe for me.
1. vehicles. 2. Troop building at 6" isn't remotely fun. |
