The honor system.
I have been online scouring for Joe news since 1996. In all of that time I have not found a board like this one. Most of the boards I've been a part of are either too focused on the collecting aspect with no real sense of community, or they've been super-conservative "say what you have to say but keep it short and don't bother with the whimsy or we'll edit and ban you into the stratosphere. That said, I've been amazed by the fact that the Tank has so many good people and so many imaginative and engaging posters. Truly this place has been a breath of fresh air. Right now, we are standing at the forefront of a Joe comeback that will bury the resurgence from the beginning of this decade. We have perfect toys, they are done in a beautiful and respectful format. The Man himself, Larry Hama's about to give us a bunch of the good stuff, and we're even getting a movie. A movie that looks like it will be done RIGHT since hasbro cut it's live action teeth with Transformers. This is supposed to be the best time ever to be a Joe fan. Now I'll grant you, I've nearly developed ulcers looking for the new figures. And let me tell you, I'm more vigilant than the average fan or consumer. I have my complaints, and if the figures were out there Hasbro would know my NAME because of the money I'd spend. But that's not the case right now. Right now, here on this board, we have the most concentrated community of people who truly deserve to find and have these figures. Now it seems to me that there is a serious problem with ethics and trust between the fans. We're like hungry dogs in a room with one piece of meat. Now, we can tear each other apart, get mad, be dishonest and all but one or two will go hungry, or we can divide the piece evenly and pray for multiplicity. I opt for the second. As of now, right here, I'm going to start placing all of the extra figures (that aren't CC, SE or SS) that I find up for sale or trade. I'm gonna say a flat fee of $7 per figure (which may vary from state to state). That way I'm only recovering cost and paying postage. (And I'm always willing to trade 1 for 1 to get Cobra Soldiers). I encourage the rest of you to do the same. As a community, we stand to gain the most when we pool our resources. I'm not gonna send one person 7 Fireflies, but if I have 7, I will send 7 different people one. If you guys would like to start pooling resources, I can try something a little more creative. Those with extra figures can PM me their lists and everyone can send me a want list. Based on the order received and the general numbers, I can try to redistribute what's there so that everyone has a fair shake. I encourage those writing to put their want lists in order of most to least desired. If this sounds like a scam or the idea of one person acting as a distribution hub seems fishy, I would invite the admin to view my personal messages as regulators so that the rest of the board can be assured of fair practices. If you're looking for figures to display MIP, please denote "collector grade" in your requests. It might slow you down though, so if you just need one to play with, don't bother. It's much easier to dole them out if I'm not worrying about creased cards and so on. I've already had responses and I'd like to add Sigma 6 figures to the pool as well, since there are a lot of people here who are invested in them as well. So what do you say, guys? Can we try to rock the honor system one time? __________________

I think it's a fantastic idea and one definitely worth considering. There's so many positives involved with a venture like this that they quite honestly overshadow the negatives.
I quite honestly believe that with the number of active members here who read this thread, it would be quite easy to set up a makeshift distribution system. That being said, I say that for a venture like this, a certain "background check" if you will is in order. People would have to give up their full names, addresses, phone number, etc., up front. Once an item is confirmed as obtained by another member, the member and/or members on the list looking for that item will be contacted, in order of which they asked to be added to the list. Now, before this goes any further, I'd like to touch base with all that read this and offer a small suggestion: I highly suggest that we all keep unwarranted comments to ourselves. I recommend that we enjoy each others company and actually enjoy this hobby. I'd openly say to anyone reading that IMO the 25th line is turning everyone in to a bunch of jaded individuals that are quite honestly losing focus on what's important. If you're all desperate for these figures, then Omega has proposed an idea that could be beneficial to one & all. If you have something negative to say, please remember the recommendation above. |

I agree...this is a good idea.
I'd also recommend viewing the good buyers/sellers/traders thread here (or other boards/areas that someone has done commerce)....just as some additional background info on whom you are dealing with in your trades.

I think it is a fantastic idea! I just wish I had a single figure to contribute. I could run out to TRU and pick up a Joe 5-pack, but chances are nobody wants anything from that!
Now I'm kicking myself for not picking up the Serpentor at Target that I saw a couple weeks back! |

It might not pay off big for some. The first priority is going to be to get everyone at least one figure they are looking for. After that, we go back to the top of the list and try to fill second requests. And so on and so forth. It's going to be completely fair, and it's going to be based on a first-come first serve basis... so if your collection is empty, I recommend getting your name in the hat early. Like now.

I like this idea as well. Matter of fact, if it hadn't been for this post, and after reading all the other "stuff" today, I was about to be done with this board.
Anyways, my local Target just got in Cobra Legion packs. The Mrs. picked up the only one they had this morning, but just got back from Target and they had, I'd venture a guess of 5 more out. That, being said, if you are in need for one, I can check tomorrow to see if any are left. Just PM me, I will check before I hit the sack, and if I can find one, I'll be happy to pick it up for someone. |

As of now I have nothing to contribute...nor need, I am up to date.
That said....if and when I do find figures at retail that I already have, I will pick up what I can. If someone needs them...great, if not....there is always toys for tots.

Commander, I thank you for reconsidering your membership here. Efforts are already being made to ensure that this place continues to be somewhere that people want to share their opinions & ideas without all the unnecessary drama that eventually follows suit.
Now, back to the plan at hand! As many know, I went on a tri city hunt for product. I ended up picking up, literally, every Joe item I found sans one wave 2 buzzer with absolute crappy paint apps. It's safe to say that there isn't a lick of anything I want...other than a Shipwreck with Anchor Tat. As I already have a shipwreck, my request can wait until others have obtained one, and then I will throw my hat in again ;) |
