Am I the only one that has ZERO interest in Tiger Force, Night Force, Slaughter's Marauders, Python Patrol, and so on?
I consider everything except the first issue of a figure a repaint. Repaints to me are just a marketing gimmick. Am I alone in this feeling? |

Not sure if you're alone. I actually think repaints are pretty shiny. I guess since most of the original 13 were just repaints that I got used to it. Might just want to go with it since no power in the verse will stop repaints. (sorry for all the Firefly puns, my favorite show of all time and I couldn't resist)

I don't really mind sub-teams. Sometimes, certain version 1 colors are not really my thing. I rather night force Charbroil over version 1 Charbroil and tiger force Frostbite over version 1 Frostbite just to name two.

I don't mind them.
I really like tiger force. But I do think it's silly that the members for tiger force (or any sub team) had to of had custom made outfits that are exactly like the regular outfits they normally wear only with tiger stripes and different colors. It would have been a great time to kitbash some parts from other characters . Last edited by Indiana Joe; 06-04-2015 at 02:04 PM.. |

Sadly Joes became famous with the remold / repaint ideaology. There is no way around it sadly :( that is one reason why I collect tmnt. There is barely any repaints in that entire genre.

Back in the day I loved the repaints, the sub groups. If it hadn't been for Tiger Force back in 88 I would of never had a v1 (well v2) Duke and Flint. Those two where some of the early Joes I could never find. So it really made my day back then when I finally got them even if it was in Tiger Force colors.
Today the repaints don't have that same feel or even need I guess as they did back in the 80's. Sky Patrol atleast had some new parts, Python Patrol was just plain awesome as was Slaughter's Marauders. Although for both PP and SM it was more the vehicles than the figures that made them awesome I think. As a kid back then I didn't care much for the Tiger Force vehicles except for the ones I didn't have in the early days. Like the Rattler and Ferret, those were the two Tiger Force vehicle must haves for me back in 1988. All the other TF vehicles I already had first versions of them. Same thing happened for me with Sky Patrol, didn't care much for the vehicles since I had all them already. Python Patrol and Slaughter's Marauders were different though. I guess it was the paint schemes. |

I think repaints can sometimes be improvements over originals. Night Force would be an example of an improvement in my eyes while Tiger Force/Python Patrol(except for the TRU 6-pack that had red/black) don't look appealing to me. It just depends on what colors are used.

In 1989, I had been away from Joes for a few years, when I happened down a toy aisle and laid eyes on PP Copperhead hanging on a peg. I remember having mixed feelings at the time. I was excited because I really liked the v1 figure and never had him, but a bit put off by the new paint job.
I bought it anyway on a nostalgia whim and quickly grew to love it. The rest is history, and now I find myself actually a fan of repaints, both Joe and non-Joe alike.

I agree. Re paints are a gimmick. So many figures yet to be redone. So many cool ones from the comics or cartoons not made.

I still remember seeing that first wave of Python villains, and smh thinking that I would have bought them all if only they hadn't changed the decos. I hated repaints then, except for Bazooka and Lifeline, who I thought were color improvements on the original. Also Night Force Shockwave is the greatest repaint, and Lightfoot ain't bad either, so I came around.
