With this new 2015 joecon set coming out, it seams to over whelm me even more the usual, making me realize I could never keep up with getting one of every type of modern g.i joe version of figures even if I wanted too. ( not that I want too ) but it seams like a lot of people out there are collecting like this or just collecting FSS stuff. OR like me army building. But no matter what you collect or how, I'm asking the question why ?
At the end of the day all we have is little plastic men on our shelves....why ???? Seams to me 99percent of the fun of the hobby is searching and finding and securing deals for figures that are needed. I do dios and customs so I get a little more bang for my buck then usual but I can't imagine how you ( I have to have one of every modern character ) guys feel a when you get a 40$ figure but it in your display and then have to move onto the next one. Visious circle. Didn't mean to bring anybody down with this post, just curious as to know how people appreciate g.i joe collecting.

For me, it's been the only constant in my life since I was a child. People come and go, loved ones, friends, jobs and so on, but the joy of collecting has always been there. Seeing what's coming down the pipeline and then finding it on a toy run gives me a rush like Christmas morning did as a kid.

Well I am not a full completionist (or so i tell myself anyway). I only buy what i like. Somehow i still own a ridiculous amount of stuff so apparently i "like" alot. In the end its just a part of who i am. I love the buying, selling, trading, meeting new people & sharing in the hobby.

to me..collecting these stuff is a way to exercise my creativity (my main buying point is articulation, followed by aesthetic / wow factor so i dont consider myself a completist). i love creating dio stories and situations using joes as models as well as the potential for customization (something that ive been trying to do since my earliest o-ring frankenjoes). so joes to me is a stress release as well as a medium for my creativity.

For me the fact that Larry Hama is still producing new G.I. Joe stories is a factor in driving my love of collecting. More than the movies, it makes me feel like G.I. Joe is still alive.

From time to time for a brief few seconds I get the same feeling I had as a kid. I don't know how to describe it. There was this feeling, excitement or something I felt back then. Seeing the new catalog for that year, getting the new Sears/JC Penny catalog. Especially with the 85 and 86 Joes, there was something special about them. I'm not really sure why. Old ARAH or new ARAH style updates there is just something about it that for a moment brings that feeling back and it's almost like being back there in 1985 again. It's like the day I got the 25th Sharc. I watched an episode of the cartoon with the Sharc in it and put the stickers on. This will make me sound like some kind of sentimental fool or something. But I was almost in tears. It made me remember when I got the Sharc for my 4th birthday. My Grand Parents got it for me and my Grand Pa had passed away a few years earlier in 2005. For a little bit it really took me back. |

I don't smoke or drink. I just rationalize all the money that I spend on Joes is stuff that I saved from wasting on smoking or drinking.
And yes, as mentioned above there is that feeling you get when you first get a new figure in your hands and it's made exactly like you wished it would be. It's a bit like what former Top Gear host James May described as the "fizzy penis root" feeling: James’s fizzy logic - BBC Top Gear |

Like my wife says there are much worse and much more expensive hobbies. Every now and then you gotta smile for little reason. When I see my guys setup on my Flagg (never had one as a kid) I do that. Smile for little reason.

You all made me remember memories of me being 5 years old, and my mom holding me on Christmas morning, and me pointing to the g.i joe / brave star and thunder cats stuff I was getting. We seam to be part of a special process, I can't see my 3 year old 25 years from now , ebaying jack and the never lands pirate stuff.....never!!!!! LOL
