I wrongly thought the same! I was at Toys R Us last night and humbly found myself utterly wrong. I saw the BMF's box and it said "over 2.5 ft long." The F-14 is 3.5 ft - nearly an entire foot longer than the BMF! A limited-release Tomcat at $200 versus $150 for a BMF at mass-release raises questions.
1. If Hasbro mass-produced an F-14, A-10, YF-23 or other 1:18 scale planes, how much would it cost at Walmart? 2. With 3,000+ views + overwhelming +positive responses on this here thread, do you think Hasbro will consider 1:18 planes? 3. How can we kindly convince Hasbro to go "big" with Joe as they realized they needed to do with Star Wars e.g. BMF? How can we draft a polite question nicely asking them in the next Q&A to go big via the 1:18 scale? They have a military licensed property, a movie coming out that they said is going to be a hot one and still cannot make a decent looking vehicle. The crap they are spewing out now are abominations. If I had a dog that looked like half of the upcoming vehicles, I'd have him put to sleep. |

Dear Hasbro Q&A Pitt = Turd. Crap. Abomination. Monstrosity. F-14 in 1:18 = Beautiful. Must have. Work of Art. The above words express the sentiments fans felt reviewing one Hasbro product, versus, a smaller company's product that could've easily been Hasbro's own "Skystriker." Your original Skystriker is brilliant in its simplicity. Like the ravely reviewed BMF - can you repeat this success by simply making long-loved vehicles bigger in 1:18 scale for Joe's bright future? Unlike the PITT or even the BMF, these real-life aircraft molds can be used again and again to make sellable repaints of actual real-life squadrons who flew the F14, A10, YF-23, etc. Pretty please???? Yours Truly Tankers Okay tankers. That last sentence was actually a bit of a joke. You can decide if you want to keep it. Feel free to add, edit, improve... |

Yeah, respectfully, I don't agree. I'll let you know what it's really like when I get it.

JSI: Making high-end collectibles clearly aimed at an adult market.
Hasbro: Making mass-retail toys generally aimed at children, or at best children and adults in equal measure. I guaran-freaking-tee that after the third or fourth time that craploads of $200 Skystrikers end up getting clearanced out after Christmas (hey, kinda like that Millennium Falcon folks keep bringing up), Hasbro would be sick of losing money on them and give up. Seriously, people...why do you think there were so many previously cancelled items in 1:18th scale across a variety of manufacturers (21st Century most notably)? Because they cost too much and take up too much space to be practical for the casual consumer. The "hardcore" collector that's absolutely going to drop $200+ for a 3 1/2 - 4 foot long Skystriker is a tiny minority of the buying public. Not everyone has a spare room/garage that they can store these things in, nor the disposable income to buy in any great numbers. If there were a "hot" market for 1:18th scale vehicles of that size, 21st century (et al...) wouldn't have had so many cancelled items. The market simply doesn't exist to support these, and while I hate to say it because they do look really nice, I'll be deeply surprised if the 1:18 F-15 and SU-27 both become a reality. I do think the F-14 will happen, and it'll be great for the folks that are willing to shell out that kinda cash and have the space to let it collect dust in, but I'm betting it won't sell enough to justify the F-15 and SU-27.
