2006-ish to early 2007. At the time, YoJoe.com was pretty much the only GI Joe forum I knew about. I was tapering off the toys by then, but still liked to talk about the comics and cartoons. I believe it was there that I saw the news about the 25th line of Joes. Seeing the new sculpt of Snake Eyes got me pretty excited, however I was struggling financially and was convinced this wouldn't be something I could do. I ended up getting married in 2007, just a few months before the 25th stuff hit and having a dual income allowed me the opportunity to pick this stuff up. My new wife wasn't as excited as I was, now she understands it makes me happy, so she's cool with it.
Anyway... My first were the Joe and Cobra 5 packs, $20 each at Target. My first carded Joe was Beachhead. He was $4.98 at Walmart, those were the days, haha.

At the time of the original few waves I was a little sceptical. I had previously not been a fan of most of the figures released between 03-07. I did read about the 25th line but was still up in the air over it. When I actually ran into these figures at a local Kay Bee I think it was. I picked up Beachhead and I think Snake Eyes. I brought them home and stored them away. A little while later I came across a bat and fell in love. I ended up buying most of the line and currently have them displayed. The articulation is what drew me to these figures and I think its what drew me to joes in the 80s as well.

I preordered the 5-packs and the first wave of single figures from Entertainmentp Earth right when they went up for preorder. I ended up seeing the single figures at retail in my lousy hometown Kmart any figured my order would be on its way. Nearly a month later, my order arrived.

I was late to the game...toys weren't on my radar or of any interest to me at the time of the 25th line's release...but my first 25th purchase, and "Joe" period for that matter since I was a kid, ended up being a HOH Zartan from TJ Maxx on clearance.
A nostalgic tsunami of epic proportions shook my world and smacked me in the face that day in that disheveled toy aisle. Now the rest is history.

First night I remember buying 25th (and beginning to collect basically) I bought a dvd battle set or two. Still among my favorite of the joe line. Same night (at Toys R Us) I met a tanker. Hadn't seen him on here in awhile.

My first was the comic book two-pack with Storm Shadow and battle-damaged Snake Eyes. I had no idea that the 25th line even existed until I happened to catch a glimpse of it while at Walmart (in those days I never went to the toy aisle). I bought the pack, thinking that one Joe and one Cobra were all I needed, and that I would put them up on my desk and never buy another one. Little did I know . . . .

The first two were the 5 packs. By just pure luck I bought black Timber Snake Eyes at Toysrus. A few months later is when I realized it was the more rare variant.

I couldn't find the 25th two packs anywhere around here. By complete chance my Dad called me. He was working in Chicago at the time and he asks me if I had seen this fancy 25th anniversary GIJoe box set. I asked him to get it for me and see if they had the Cobra set too. He got them both and later the same day he was at a hobby shop looking for some model trains he bought me a 21st century toys 1:18 german halftrack. Christmas came early that year.
But the first 25th Joes I actually got myself. I couldn't find them anywhere here. I saw a spot for the box sets but they were already sold out. So I got on ebay and bought a Cobra Officer and Snake Eyes with Timber. I had those a good two months before my Dad got back from Chicago. I was so amazed by the then fancy new articulation in the figures. |
