So I have been trying to avoid collecting Joe's as well as Transformers, but unfortunately Tuesday Mornings got me. As I was going through the store, I saw him.
The perfect version. The Ultimate version. Cobra Commander. I saw other figures there, but left em. Went home, opened him to pose next to my vintage Night Raven, and Sky Striker (only 2 figures and vehicles I own), but in the process fell in love with Joes. The articulation is amazing. I was posing him for a good thirty minutes at least just getting him in different poses. Today I went hunting and got Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. So I have the itch. I am hoping it won't get so bad like my TF itch, since I have 0 display space. But I have it anyway. So after that long story, a couple of quick questions. I would like to build the main cast of Joes and Cobra. Not to many, just the ones that were on the show the most. With Bareness, Destro, Flyntt and some others coming out for the 50th, do you guys think that Hasbro is rebooting the figure line again and going with an ultimate type theme? I ask because if they aren't, I am thinking of hunting down some of the 25th Anniversary figures. Last question, what other "classics" GI Joes are currently out in the Retallation wave? I saw the Crimson guard, but he didn't look very G1ish. I am not sure how he looked without his vest. |

Well hold off for the 50th Flint, Destro. I would pick up the Sdcc Baroness from last year but it will cost you around 50ish. Other than that Iddon't know how addicted you want to get but some other 50th will be great to add as well like Gung ho, lowlight since the Poc will also drain the wallet a pit at 30 or so loose. Some great 25th noteables are Bazzoka, Mutt, Alpine but again HES gonna take some change to acquire. Check out Yojoe.com from 07-14 as this is the ME era thats really well done for the most part.

I think I gotta go grab the G1 cartoon and watch it again.
I know I want Gung Ho and Shipwreck for sure. Lady Jay, Fint. But not sure of the characters since I haven't seen them in such a LOOOOOONG time. Besides Bareness coming with Ravage, why do you recommend SDCC Bareness? (I actually fought myself and passed on that set, DUMB!) |

She is the best version thus far of the character in my opinion. She fits well in the"Ultimate" line. There was a baroness released in a 5 pack that wasnt too bad. Other than that 25th Shipwreck is a good figure too he also had a release in a 5 pack with a Polly (Parrot) with a open wing span that was cool.
The Retaliation Crimson Guard is only ok in my book. Should have been an Ultimate G1 style as well.

So do you think Hasbro is rebooting to an ultimate line G1 style?

Man, the only figure I wish I saw and gotten was Big Boa. I loved that figure as a kid.

Probably not with all the characters but the concept case figures are a real good place for them to start and they seem to be headed in the right direction releasing some of those in the fall is definitely one of the best decisions that theyhave made for the line in a while. Thats just my opinion Anyway.

Pretty much anything from 07 till current, is awesome. Like trujoe said above, that's the "modern era", from the 25th on. Yes, its true that within the pursuit of cobra line, and the 30th, there were increasingly better version and updates of certain figures, but you as a new collector, should look at anything from 07 and up as a continuous collection.
As a whole this way it gives you the most options. If you love the "nostalgia" aspect, then tons from the 25 will satisfy, especially the card art. If you want nice "updates" then you can find it in pursuit and 30th, and Retaliation. Or cherry pick from all the lines, and put together whatever you want in your collection. Also, I think watching the old Sunbow cartoons is a great idea for you. It will refresh your memory, and probably drive you towards the direction you want to take your collection. Just remember, mostly anything from the 25th up, can pretty much satisfy any way you want to go. |

Funny thing is, last year I made a list of all the vechicles I wanted from the 25th line, and pulled back. If I would have realized how nice these were, I would have picked em up by now. BTW, How do most of the vechicles fit in a detolf? |

I hated 25'th. Sure it was "revolutionary" for some fans, but the articulation (I'm looking at you Duke arms!) sucked. And lets not forget the diapers!
Ultimate I have fell in love with. I'd buy the 50'th which looks extremely badass, and skip the 20'th. |
