Hey guys, I just purchased a house in upstate NY and have begun bringing my 25th and recent joes to it. They can only really go in my un insulated garage and I'm worried how that will affect them. They are only in plastic sterilite bins. Will they disintegrate from the cold or something catastrophic? Also if I let them adjust to room temp before taking them out will the cold hot change mess them up? I've heard crazy stuff and hopefully you guys can shed some light. Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. If at all possible leave them in your house. Sorry

I think the cold will be ok, but in the summer heat your toys might get damaged if left in the garage.

For a collector on the other side of the equator I don't now if extreme heat has had much effect at all on my collection. I'm talking a metal garage in in the intense Australia summer temperatures for years. No apparent effect whatsoever for modern figs in plastic tubs.
Just my two cents on it |

Most of my Joe stuff spent a year in a storage unit without worry. They're back in there now, in fact. This is Kentucky, so one day it was snowing three inches the next, it was 75 and sunny. You boxes may wind up a little softer but I've yet to fear the joes will degrade.

My vintage toy collection (70s/80s) has been in my garage for since my parents moved into this house in 1993. The temps in this area range from low 20s-30s in the winter to up to 100 degrees in the summer. There has been no damage, other than slight discoloration on a couple Joe figures and discoloration to the bottom of my Night Raven (I attribute that to the fact the landing gear was up and it was sitting on an old vinyl collectora case) over the years. My "modern" toy collection (90s-current) has been in there since I moved back from the west coast in 2006. There's been no damage to those figures at all. Not even discoloration.
The way I see it, as long as your toys are properly maintained and stored properly, nothing will happen to them.

I have stored items in the garage myself and never had an issue with the plastic. I live in Northeast Ohio by the way and our weather is crazy. The only storage issue I have noticed is with the cardboard boxes and cards. They tend to warp and buckle from the humidity.

About half of my collection has, until recently, been in plastic bins in my Mom's unfinished attic. It gets hot as shit up there in the summer and pretty cold during the winter, but there has been ZERO damage to any of my figures. So, I think you'll be okay, but if youre worried, I'd just move them into the house and deal with a little clutter. I assume the reason your Joes are out in the garage to begin with is because of the wife, so if this is the case and she complains, might I suggest:

It's reassuring that most say the garage is ok because my 2 sons will do dangerous stuff to get at the toys if I leave them in the house. Plus there is no other choice except my mom's house where I will not see them much. I feel better. I guess the softer plastic is more resistant but even here I have heard of joes popping and cracking. Thanks fellas!
