I am posting a reply that really doesn't have much to do with the condition of my cardbacks or how cool the figures are... Mine is a little more personal, but I wanted to share because you never know what emotions a figure is going to envoke in a person.
I received my figures yesterday and was really looking forward to Keel Haul since I like to display my vintage figures side by side with their modern counterparts. Upon opening the box and seeing that highly sought after (for me anyway) Keel Haul, my jaw dropped to the floor. Keel Haul looks EXACTLY like my father who passed away in 1987 when I was 11 years old. I mean, Exactly! He looks like the sculptor had a picture of my father at his desk and used it for reference material. It's scary. Now don't get me wrong, my father never wore an admiral's hat or anything, but he did always wear a hat of some sort, ball cap, cowboy hat, you name it, but Keel Haul's face, the moustache, EVERYTHING, looks just like my dad. I was never really as close to my dad as my brothers were, I wish I had been, but they were more into hunting and fishing and I was always more interested in comics and figures. That's why this figure has opened up a whole can of worms for me, because even though it brings back fond memories of my father, it also brings back some that aren't so good as well. You see, as I stated before, I was never into hunting and fishing like they were (I never had the patience to sit in the woods or on a riverbank for hours at a time and, sometimes, never even shoot at or catch anything), and because of that, my brothers always called me "gay" and my dad always thought there was something wrong with me because I didn't act like a "boy" because I liked my comicbooks and toys better than what they liked to do. It's funny looking back on all that now as I have a wife and family, and earn a living drawing those comic book characters I loved so much as a kid. All of my brothers still hunt and fish, and I still collect my toys (I say that as my Hot Toys '89 Keaton Batman [My absolute favorite non Joe toy of all time!] stares at me from my desk beside my computer), but opening that Keel Haul and looking him over just woke up a lot of emotion in me. Some good... some bad... I guess that's just one of the reasons I love my figures... especially my Joes! Who would have ever thought that a tiny little toy could bring back this flood of memories today? Sorry to ramble on so much, but I figured there might just be another Tanker out there that has had something like this happen to them before. Maybe I'm alone on this.. I dunno, but my Keel Haul has become a small reminder of my father that will stand somewhere on my shelf for the rest of my life now. Funny that the thing he thought was "strange" about me has become the thing that made me think about him most.

if not, the tank is like a family. We all like these 'toys' for whatever reason, and I'm sure a lot of us dealt with similar situations. I did, to some degree. Interesting how joes can bring people together.

I have never given up on my comic art and now do it for a living and love every minute of it. I walk from my bedroom down the hall to the very next room on the right to work every day. I love what I do (one of the things that made me "gay") and I think that I am pretty darn good at it. I also love my collection and have quite a valuable bunch of toys now. Worth way more money than all those thousands of dollars they have spent on fishing lures and such throughout the years. It looks like the things that made me weird and strange in their eyes has paid off and made me the person I am today. I'll never change and hope that pressure from peers or family never make anyone else ever change who they are. Believe in yourself and make yourself happy. You can never go wrong with that. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

Hey idrawcomics, I don't think there's anything more "boy" than liking comics and toys!!! I don't wanna take away from the thread, but I hear ya on the sentiment that some of these things can bring about.

Thanks for sharing Idrawcomics! This is one thing I like about collecting sites, yes we all like different figures and scales, but at the end of the day We're all a community.
I don't mean to take away from such a compelling post. But I used to hide the fact I collect toys during most of high school. But I mentioned I had a huge collection of Star Wars figures to a few Sw fans and soon I had other people asking me what figures I collect and others sharing their varied collection. I just turned 20 Feb 5 and I could not be happier collecting plastic crack. I've brought a figure to school and other places just to play with when I'm bored(I don't really like app games). Just don't let negativity get you down folk!
