What has happened to our youth of today?? The toy aisle is like a deserted western town. When I walk down the toy aisle I hear the whistling of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly theme. I see a tumble weed roll across the action figure aisle. Where are all the kids ? I look a few aisles over and I see them all on the video game aisle.
I went to Toys-r-us yesterday afternoon. I was the only person on the three action figure aisles. Went down to Gamestop and had to wade through the kids screaming at their self-centered parents connected to their cellphones and wi-fi devices. We are raising kids to be connected to some sort of electronic device at all times. And kids are losing their independent thought and imagination. RIP my dear action figures may you be discovered by some civilization in the future that has an understanding of imagination. Chopz |

Sad but true. I'm hoping to help change that though. If I can ever get my business idea off the ground. Of course it would be reliant on parents actually WANTING to spend time with their children.

My 8-year-old nephew is permanently attached to his PSP and only a single action figure to his name (which I got him for Christmas). Sad, sad, sad...

Funny you mention this. Just last night I was searching ebay and came accross a GI Joe set that was a Cobra gun range. Never seen it before and told my wife that we must've had a better imagination in the 80's for that to be an actual toy.

I've been in TRU, Target, and WalMart in the last week and actually I've seen plenty of kids digging thru the Joe section. It actually has been kind of cool to see the 35 year old moms and dads talking with their kids about who the bad guys and good guys are and going over some of the playtime decisions - IE you can get 1/2 figures today and then around christmas you can ask Santa for something bigger.
I was surprised at how many kids were there actually 4-5 at each location each time I've been there. They're out there, but the product has to engage and reach them, something that a new run of 40-50 well done toon episodes could do. I think Hasbro and the like are having a tough time deciding what to do though - I can't say that Resolute was helpful in getting to the little ones but ROC certainly has helped and I think we'll see some more emphasis on reaching out in the future. |
