I was reading these threads:
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...nterparts.html http://forums.yojoe.com/toys-1982-19...eal-world.html And it made me think of the flipside topic - what are some of the real world military vehicles that would be cool to use as inspirations for original looking Joe/Cobra vehicles? Let's get past the well known conventional designs like the Apache, the Abrams, the Bradley, etc. I'll start out suggesting the old Swedish "S-tank" - low profile hull, excellent modern "tank destroyer" style design. Stridsvagn 103 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia And there's the BV series of course... Slap a few extra weapons on this thing and you're good to go. Bandvagn 202 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Also, I think an MRAP brimming with guns could be a neat vehicle - perhaps an Alley Viper Combat vehicle? |

Several of the different MRAP vehicles would be good Joe vehicles. I'd like to see an Osprey as well.

Keep hoping a designer finds the OV-10 Bronco and makes the pitch to update it for GI Joe.

Oooh, I got lots of suggestions.
Some sort of rocket artillery on a truck would be nice. BM-21 Grad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Small tankettes would be neat too. Like the stingray Stingray light tank - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Or how about a mobile mortar carrier? Dragon Fire (mortar) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Or how about a vehicle used to scout in a nuclear, biological and radiological Apocalypse? M93 Fox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia M1135 Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, Reconnaissance Vehicle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Or how about this thing? An anti artillery sentry gun? Shoots missiles and mortar and artillery shells out of the sky and detects when they're coming (man this thing is sweet) Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

I think they should make Mainframe's Prius.

A DeLorean as Countdown's civy ride, a Jeep Wrangler Sahara for Dusty's, or a German halftrack to carry a squad of Cobra Shock troopers. Also a good ride for countdown a Joint Strike Fighter.

Thanks, guys
Ah yes, the Bronco! I'd far have preferred something like this over the Mudfighter. Possible mods for that could have been some kind of sideways firing weapon, to mimic the gun arrangements on a C-130. I like the Stingray idea. I've always liked the concept of light tanks, the MBT Mauler is more in this class than the heavy tank we all thought it was when we were kids. To go even smaller, there's the German Wiesel: Wiesel AWC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cool idea about a NBC-proof vehicle. This could be a useful ride for the Toxo Vipers. I like the concept of a half track - especially for Cobra - perhaps as a fast, cheap APC. We're so used to associating them with WWII, but the Snow Cat counts. As for larger watercraft, add some extra weapons on the Stridsbaat 90: CB90-class fast assault craft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia And how about something like this for the Oktober Guard? It's gratuitously overarmed to a slightly ridiculous level already. BMPT - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Last edited by Stormgard; 11-19-2013 at 12:27 PM.. |

It's configured like the majority of "modern" SPAADs (a pair of cannons teamed with banks of missiles), only in the antitank role. Probably vicious against infantry, and more than capable killing soft skin vehicles and MBTs alike. Screw Hasbro, I'd like to see a full-up 1:18 version of that. Same goes for a Flakpanzer Gepard. I'm not saying the Bronco needs side mounted guns realistically speaking. I'm saying that a likely "G.I.Joeificifation" might be to add those. Most Joe vehicles weren't models of real life hardware so much as inspired by, and I think adding a bit of "C-130 factor" to the Bronco would make it more attractive to kids and also separate it a little from already existing toys like the Rattler and even the Dragonfly.
Just think of the excellent play value where you get to torment your little brother or sister by flying circles around their head making machine gun sounds. Or you know, flying around your buddy's Hiss Tank and STUN. The BMPT sports two autocannons, an MG, two grenade launchers, plus missiles. I used "overarmed" in a pew pew positive kind of way It's a great, cool concept and IMO already very G.I.Joe like. |
