I think as GSCBR says, for some folks it's just a straight-up obsession. |

This is a spectacular point, one which I have never seen made before, but it is much to the point. I know that I (and probably many others) have a toy budget, of a certain amount per month. I don't spend on an item based perspective. |

I agree with that, but it's a pretty small victory to brag over a figure that everyone's gonna have in a couple of months for a fraction of the cost.

for some people, the toys really are an obsession, not a hobby, and the idea that there is something out there to be had that they want demands that they have it now, regardless of cost. there is an emptiness that gnaws away at them if there is something available now that they don't have, and satiating that emptiness is the driving orce and more important than the money it costs.
once they get it, they probably put it away and frget about it because they are back on the lookout for something new. but they have it, and they have it now, and that is what is important. |

So you want to get all the RoC Joes (say 12 for this example). At 8 bucks a pop that's 96 bucks. Which is better to pay, 96 bucks for those 12 items or 168 bucks for those same 12 items? And how is getting it early bragging rights? Who are you bragging to? Others here on the site? Sorry, but I don't think anyone is impressed/jealous that you got it early for that price. We get impressed/jealous when someone like that guy in Maine lucks out and finds 'em on the shelves or gets 'em for retail.

I won't lie.. hell it's hard enough for me to go into a store and purchase the damn Joes at 6.99 and now the Movie figs are 7.99 and then Ebay has them for 80.00+!!! Hell no! If I find em in the stores and I want them... then I will roll pennies for them but if I can throw 80.00 at some steaks and hamburgers at the grocery store... THEN HELL YEAH... because not even a Clear Wraith tastes remotely as good as a medium rare Ribeye steak!!

No idea, it baffles me too.
If it was something out of production for several years, I can see why you'd pay that, or a rare item perhaps. When times are good, I'll sometimes pay up to 15% markup when something is available online and an easy snag versus driving around and hoping to find it at retail. I'm guilty of the "gotta catch em all" mentality, when I've got the money to do it, but due to the current economy, I have only bought to open. I've got an entire closet full of MOSC figures and vehicles, but I can't bring myself to get the new 5-packs to just store in my closet. I bought them to open, because I wanted the figures inside, but the insanity's gotta stop somewhere, albeit late in this case. As far as upcoming stuff that will be out, 15% markup is all I'd be willing to get it early at the most, and that's pushing it. The movie stuff is mostly sheer crap to me, but if the 7-packs could be had early, I'd pay $45 for each box, easily. But if I could have gotten say, Wave 13 back in October, the only way I'd do so is if I was a toy reviewer, or if I could get them for $10/each and nothing more. I agree that $80 for something that can be had in 3 months for $8 is a bit silly, especially when they're not that impressive to me, but to each his own. |

Ok I know its peoples money and all and if you got it flaunt it (So 80s), but why spend all the cash on something that will be over flowing on the pegs come this summer? I mean Ive heard people spent $80 on a movie fig (Not CC)........Why? What makes you do it? Why do you have to have it now? What would having it next week give you that waiting 2-3 months wont (Besides xtra cash in your wallet)?
I can understand some (Some not all) of the 25th Foil Carded ones....but its a summer movie and I know for a fact that pegs will be over flowing with them......It wont be like the modern figs with stores getting one case......they will get many cases. And yes I know its your money and all as a certain Mod will come in here and say, but this is in toy general discussion.....and I just want to get in the heads of those of you who do it? Why cant you wait 3 months? No arguing are calling people names.....just an honest discussion....
