So, I had no problem with Cobra troopers or Cobra Commander, but since then I've had quite a time getting guns in figures' hands.
The female Cobra troopers can't seem to hold their big rifles. Cobra Vipers can't seem to hold anything. Many other figures seem to have very small grips for their weapons handles. There has to be a trick to this that I'm missing or I've forgotten since I was a kid. With 6" figures you often have to heat the hand up with a hair dryer and then put the weapons in. Is that true for Joes? |

I just put a little dab of superglue in the palm.
I know, I’m a bad person. |

With modern Joes you can blow dry the hand to make the plastic soft. Put the gun in his/her hand and it will harden giving you the kung fu grip.

The modern Joe hands are like the Hasbro 6 inch stuff--very flexible, can heat up with blow dryer or hot water to soften, then dip in cold water for insta-set. You can also cut trigger finger a little deeper from the rest of the fingers and try get it into the trigger hole of some guns.
Other tricks are to cut into the palm and inside of thumb to get a better hand grip around the handle (like on the thicker 30th/POC figure hands); build up smaller gun handle thicknesses with superglue or nail polish (or even wrap with the small clear rubber bands that come with some packages figures); cutting down thicker/bulkier gun handles. One issue with later releases is that forearms are a lot thicker, interfering with the back end of a lot of rifles. Also, hands and forearms are often kitbashed from different original figures who were often sculpted to entirely different weapons. For the POC/30th vipers, the forearms were from an earlier movie storm shadow bashed with newer hinged hands. These things coupled with the old bulky gun don't mix to well. But I've had good success with the trigger finger trick above with these bad boys. |
