I'm a little conflicted lately about the best path for developing my collection, and I'm hoping that some here will have some helpful advice.
I like to have one figure for each of my favorite unique characters, and five or so of each army builder that I like. But that has led to a growing division in my collection: about one-third of my figures are based on the designs in Resolute (e.g. Duke, Flint, Cobra Trooper), and the other two-thirds are POC or 30th (e.g., Snake Eyes, Hawk, Stalker, Viper). And I'm trying to decide whether these two aesthetics can be mixed without one or the other looking out of place. So the question I have is, do you think it's better to stick with one style or the other (and if so, which style), or do you think these two styles can be mixed on one display shelf? (Of course the easy answer is that I can do whatever I like best, but the problem is that I can't quite decide what I like best, and I hope that hearing what others like best will help me decide.) Thanks for any input! |

I personally will have a shelf dedicated to cartoon figures and will just keep them all together. Although I might not display much more than the Cobra troopers and a few of the Sunbow characters only because the Resolute and Renegades don't hold much nostalgia for me.
Let me ask you this... Airtight was carded as a Renegades but was styled as a 30th, would you consider him Renegades or 30th?

There are some awesome Resolute figs. The Destro is probably the best to date. Ok, moneybags is cool, but it's an overly glorified head swap and some cool accessories. The Cobra troops are awesome and I think that is one of the best Storm Shadow figs. In fact, of all the resolute figs that got produced the only one I don't like is the Baroness. I really wished Hasbro had done more with it.
The 30th figs stand on their own and are an awesome addition to the line. Only complaint I've ever had was the weapons in the Renegades packs. Yeah, I know they match the cartoon. Still hate them.

You can always mix, but I would keep them seperated.
Who are you favorite characters and troop builders? Resolute could be pretty limiting... |

My collection is almost totally limited to one figure each (what I consider the definitive one) of my favorite unique characters, and a few each of my favorite army builders.
From Reolute: Cobra Commander (5-pack); Duke (single); Destro; Flint, Roadblock; Gung Ho; Beachhead; Cobra Trooper (blue for basic troopers and red for Crimson Guard). Pretty much everyone else is POC or 30th/Renegades -- e.g., Hawk; Low-Light; Snake Eyes; Recondo; Stalker; POC Beachhead (as Wreckage); Spirit; and Vipers. The real problem arose when I started thinking about getting a small army of 30th Vipers. Everything else looks ok enough together that I don't get bent out of shape about displaying them all on the same shelf, but the 30th Vipers look funny next to the blue and red Resolute Troopers. |

Maybe keep your favorite of each named character and just choose whether you prefer 30th/POC or Resolute troops and consolidate your troop builders to one aesthetic???

IMO all the ME stuff can be mixed. It's all about presentation and what you're in the mood for. Sometimes I want to display Baroness in her classic black, other times I need her in her Paris Pursuit ROC look, other times I need the blue version. It's all about what you like and what you want. If you feel the display looks out of place then do something to elevate the look you're going for. If it's all about downsizing then get rid of the ones you just obviously don't enjoy. If it's just about picking the right one and putting the others away then try different display options and see which ones you like best.
