Ok really torn right now. My collection is getting crazy, And Im on the fence about selling of my Oring collection of figures I have about 400 or so all nm-mint most are complete. Now it has been a long while since i last had any Oring style figures displayed mostly packed up and put away. Now the big question is do i keep them or sell them off to make room. I have my 1st child due any day now, We are about two weeks from our due date. A boy LOGAN JAMES! I would like to start building a modern era collection up for him but I am Drastically running out of space. What o do? I have expanded my "Man Cave" already twice in 3 years knocking down walls and building new so that option is out. Any ideas opinions?

I say this dont worry about building up a collection for him, I know it is hard not to (I have three boys) while he may like them he probably wont be real interested in them unless there is a cartoon. I gave my boys my JvC era joes to play with outside and my seven year old has a few modern joes but never ask for them at the store, he would rather have transformers or turtles or legos.
As far as keeping them that is up to you, I have around 3,000 figures and over 12,000 comics, they are all in a storage shed except for my modern Joe collection and some vehicles. |

400 figures, packed away really shouldn't take up so much room to be a burden.
As far as you kid, wait and see what he's interested in. My kids have quite a few action figures. I've given them some, and some were bougth new. They're all pretty much pristine. Not cause tehy take care of their stuff, but becuse they never play with them. |

Holly hamburgers Batman. That's a lot if figures. Thats another thing ive been thinking alot about will he even lovem like i did. I love my vintage joes for obvious reasons I mean its them that kept me interested all theses years. But with modern era figures getting better all the time are the originals truly out dated. I'm finding that more and more of my originals are having elbow issues and or are needing o ring changes dispite being stored in a climate controlled room. I obviously very conflicted.

I'd say sell the vintage ones! I had a few laying in a drawer for several years before entering this hobby a few months ago after buying my son his first gijoe figure, and seeing how much better they are now compared to what I had as a kid. I instantly traded them off to another tanker for ME figures to give to my son,I ended up keeping one for me(a poc cobra storm trooper).
same as stated previously,my figures also started to deteriorate stored away,no point in holding on to something you can't enjoy IMO..all that's gonna happen is you'll eventually die,and your wife/kids will just goodwill or dumpster your prized collection... I fell the same way about keeping stuff new/sealed. Open that stuff! fiddle with it,and enjoy it for what it is! if I have something laying around, unused, haven't touched in years,it hits eBay! there's no point in owning something just to own it IMO. |

Check out how I store my figures: Photo Album - Imgur
each row of those boxes holds about 50 figures, and there's 3 rows per box which = 150 figures per box. So 3 boxes would hold about 450 figures. Scroll down to the middle of of the page and check out how I have them stacked in my closet. Specifically, look at how much space those 3 boxes on top take up. It really isn't much at all. I know 400 figs sounds like a lot, but as long as they are loose, 400 figs really doesnt take up much space. Unless you just need some extra cash, or are growing tired of your o-ring figures, just store them. |

Dont keep your ARAH figures UNLESS you plan on showing your son an episode of the original cartoon series every day after he turns 5 yrs old. The designs may be extremely outdated by that time and without a media property to tie into the toys wont mean as much .
Without a cartoon or comic...you can give him Power team Elite or any other generic well articulated military figure and he'd be just as happy if he actually likes military action figures. But dont get rid of o-ring Hit & Run. That figure is a hit with EVERY little boy. |
