I just got back from Target and met a huge Joe fan there! Usually when I see people in the toy aisle I see them as competition (especially when they're by the joes) haha and I don't bother to strike up conversation...I just wait for them to move on and then try and see what's left! However since I'm trying to do things different in my life I decided to be more personable. He had his little boy with him so I asked him if he was looking for his son or if he was a fan? This guy got the biggest ear to ear smile and was like "Dude I'm a hardcore fan" I must have hungout there for like an extra 25 mins just talking Joes with him! He seemed so happy to finally have someone to talk toys with. He like alot of us on here has a wife who just "doesn't get it" and genuinely seemed like this was a new kind of therapy for him. I then of course plugged the Tank and asked him if he was on here he said "No" but he's browsed it before. I told him that it's an awesome place to get updates, see new pics and just talk about Joes or anything for that matter with a bunch of cool peeps! He said he thought about signing up, but was under the impression that he needed to pay for it. I told him no, just basic info and an email address and that's it. So hopefully we'll have a new member soon!!! He grabbed the last resolute 5 pack they had (I was looking for that) but since we might be welcoming a new member I was more than happy to see it go!

GI Joe collectors in my neighborhood know better than to talk to me, or even look me in the eye. They're free to help themselves to whatever I leave behind, but the penalty for cutting in line is severe.

nice story. Wish I could find cool people like that and not just get weird looks from the store employees.
But I did see a dad and his son at WM looking at Joes, and the son says 'I just wanna see if they have any ones I don't have yet' They didn't, since they had 2 full pegs of 25th Carded Scarlett and 25th Carded CC, and that's it, lol. Felt bad for the little guy! I would have gladly let him get an EEL or something if we were there at the same time. |

Happened to me the other day too. I had already stopped my Target and picked up a Bazooka Trooper and EEL before I met my wife for a beer. Went back after to maybe pick up another one or two, and a guy about my age walked up and started looking through. Struck up a conversation, he was looking for an EEL and a couple others. I ended up trading my EEL for another figure he picked up for me and we swapped in the parking lot. Talked with his dad, too, who is a Hot Wheels guy. He said he would join on the Tank, just had not gotten around to it yet.
Pretty cool stuff.

That is a great story. I have actually had conversations with other shoppers in Target and Wal Mart. Sometimes you get a person like you did that likes to talk and the time flies by. Sometimes you get the person that responds with one word answers and doesn't seem interested, and that is when you know it is time to stop talking and move on...lol I have made a couple of friends with retail workers just by discussing joes...

There's a teenager who I think has Asperger's disorder who I've run into locally two or three times. He likes Transformers, and will quiz me about them and other things. He's the type of collector/fanboy a lot of people on this and other message boards make fun of but I try to be nice to him and legitimately engage him in discussion. He was with his dad one time and I could almost swear the old man got a tear in his eye watching us discuss toys as I'm guessing the young man doesn't have many friends.
Either that or he was brokenhearted that his son is reduced to conversing with the likes of ME, but I'll choose to look at the matter positively. I've made two good friends in collecting over the years by running into the 20/30-something set in the action figure aisle. Pleased with these contacts, I've attempted to strike up conversations with people before but I've often got the "I'm normal and you're a dork so go away" vibe from them (their loss-one of my friends has about 25% of his collection thanks to me and my telephone tips as I make the rounds more than he does) so these days I don't speak unless spoken to. I will sometimes offer to help people who look like puzzled parents digging through action figures looking for something specific. I did that a lot with the movie Transformers when they were really big. |

I met a Joe fan in his early 30s a month ago. I can't believe some notable joe fans are local(like in my area/surrounding area) or used to be local So Cal.
