I think some people overthink GIJoe collecting as more than a hobby. Would i love for the comic pack to be $5, sure. But toys are really an impulse buy that i don't really "need", so paying an extra $3 for figures on a comic pack doesn't really bother me that much, being something i don't already have. A boycott isn't going to do much good, and if it does hasbro will be the one seeing that there isn't anymore demand for GIJoes and stop making them for us. So everybody loses.

Technically Hasbro's the one boycotting... er I guess "striking" as far as CPs are concerned.
With the rumor/news that no more CPs are coming down the pipeline for the next little bit, I already own all the CPs I want. So no, I won't be buying anymore CPs, but I already have all that have been released, so until they make new ones, I'm not buying anymore. The smart thing would be for stores to sticker items that have been warming pegs for 2 full seasons at the $9.99 (or whatever their older price was) and make the new CPs the increased price, if they're going to do a price hike. What will end up happening is, they didn't sell at $9.99 for 6 months or more, so making them $12.99 is going to guarantee that they sit until they're clearanced down the road at $8 or more. For anyone ready to shout "they can't sticker some items and not others!", I've seen K-Mart do it for the last month or so on the older CPs... Last edited by Mandingo Rex; 02-19-2009 at 02:13 PM.. |

But that math doesn't really work. The bulk of the CP system is based on tooling and comics that have been used time and time again. The costs that are absorbed into the original working of each have been paid off. This would mean that any run after would be less of a cost burden to Hasbro, and mean more base profit.

except Hasbro's production costs per figure have little to do with creating the perceived value of the figure. and how do you account for tooling that is released first with comic pack figures (Ace came out before Wild Bill, so that comic pack should have been more expensive to make up for the price and Wild Bill cost less as a single pack). you've only shown how Hasbro extends profits on comic packs, not the comparable value of the figures.

13 is not too bad since figures are 8 bucks standard now at target at least or 7 at tru.
what i think is a disgrace is the sideshow stuff. 100 dollars, 120 for s.e. the can shove it with those prices. Last edited by boff123; 02-19-2009 at 02:59 PM.. |
