Ever since I saw that HUGE CARRIER from ILUVCOVERGIRL, I cant stop thinking about what types of carriers that GI JOE would get in the 21st century. Yes, the USS FLAGG is the epitome of RAH, but what about the next generation of Joes? I have several ideas just about what a new carrier would look like. I have no naval experience so I am erring on the side of my imagination. I have seen the USS FLAGG under the RESOLUTE show and for anime its great, doesnt make alot of sense but for that medium its great. I was thinking something more along the lines of next generation sea vessel that makes some sense and some not. I will be posting sketches of what Ive done later today. I also am fond of vehicles and the new NIGHT RAVEN looks more like a SWITCHBLADE STEALTH FIGHTER from the STEALTH movie-at least it does to me. So for those of you that were hoping that something might look RAH, what is it you are looking for or imagining it to be? Please be original and dont ask for re-issues of stuff that has already been, let's move forward.

Big playsets, but affordable. That's what I would like to see. Basically, the USS FLAGG was a shelf or "coffee table" but it served as a great backdrop for many missions. A fold out deck could be a big size like 3' x 8' with a carry case that could open up and be the superstructure. It would take up some room, but could be easily folded up and taken outside to a picnic table or to a friend's house for ongoing missions. Hasbro is coming out with some larger ticket items this year for GI JOE and STAR WARS, Im hoping someone has created something cool. I wasnt too impressed with the PIT-for one, I thought it would be a fold out playset that represented the GI JOE base, not a rolling platfrom. Something akin to the BATMAN corner fold out playset would have been cool-sets up in the corner so it is out of the way, possible zip lines for transport, evac or other.--someone could have really taken this a step further and made it a component system that could be intermingled with other future JOE toys.
As far as carriers co, I was thinking of making a more rhomboid like shape (basically filling in where there are gaps and allowing use for the space). There are different carrier themes that Im trying for. Another is a space station, which I dont think has been done very well at all, but a component system with a shuttle designed to carry a multitude of the component pieces would be cool. Something more realistic would really be cool, also there would be pegs throughout the skin of the components to allow for zero g looking effects as well as hand holds and slots for transparent rods to hold astronauts that have mmus. Underwater bases w mini subs, work sleds etc....enough said. Last edited by SgtMajor; 02-14-2009 at 10:10 PM.. |

I think that the ultimate Joe playset would probably be a modular battlefield. It wouldn't take much, either, and could be somewhat affordable. All it would need is three building ruins for set pieces (just bombed-out corners of buildings with a window or two and a door, part of a second floor, not a full building), and maybe a bunker. For accessories, it'd come with some barbed wire, a few landmines, some sandbags, and two machine gun emplacements. And there you go! A box set, maybe fifty dollars at most, that can make hundreds of battlefields.

Modular playsets so people can pick and choose....vehicles...just update what they made in the 80's......after seeing The PITs, i have no faith in an future playsets.....the original GI Joe base and even the Tactical Platform are much better and more fun than this new PoS. I would pay to sit in on some Hasbro design meetings and just see WTF they are thinking....worst part is that they have 10 solid years of things to update and remake and they still screw it up....Hasbro, pick up Mark Bellamo's book and pick almost anything from the first ten years and get to work....you will make a killing.

I would look at today’s military vehicles and the concept drawings of those vehicles and also prototypes of those and other such military vehicles. That’s what Hasbro did from 1982 to 1985 and those were by far the best years for GI Joe toys. They need to make real military vehicles with a touch of fantasy thrown in for good measure. That would be the recipe for success. Hasbro has to get the idea out of their head that today’s kids don’t like real military machinery. Kids haven’t changed as far as that goes. I am always seeing kids buying the other brands of realistic military toys at Toys R Us and other such stores. Maybe I should do some drawings of my own just for fun. Nice drawings by the way. |

All Joe playsets should have missile shooters and lights and sounds. They should also all come with an exclusive Hawk or CC repaint.

As for me. I like fairly simple with a taste of the 80's playsets. My Pit would be like the Ghostbuster playset only bigger and with a few more elevators. I might even have lights included, but they would be actual lights in the ceiling, not the tip of a cannon. (This Pit would be comic based) Another one I just thought of would be the Cobra Trawler from the cartoon (The big Heli-Carrier that crashed into the Flagg) It would look just like the toon but be big enough to fit a Firebat in the landing bay. The top/landing stip would have a hinge at the rear to allow you to open it up. The underside of the landing strip would have details like some gun turrets and such while the now exposed hull would have multiple rooms. Starting at the bow, there would be a hangar where the Firebat can be repaired (or elemental meteors can be stored ) then you'd have multiple rooms like a jail cell, barracks and of course a planning room complete with huge screen computer, holographic display table and globe accessory with a snake wrapped around it. All the rooms would have a hallway connecting them instead of just doors like most playsets. |

nice drawings. the stealth boat from Tomorrow Never Dies was the first thing that came to my mind too. i think that would make a great vehicle addition. i've also seen a lot of people ask for the Cobra helicopters from the comics (more realistic) and the Cobra Heli Carrier.
I agree with estanley & gatchaman that basing stuff off real military hardware and going back to the beginning for concepts are the best way to go. I was watching an old episode of Mail Call yesterday and they were showing this thing called a HI MARS. Looked like an updated version of a Wolverine to me. |

That works too. HIMARS is little brother to MLRS. Half the carrying capacity but it is lighter and wheeled so it is deployable from back of airplane
