I think you need to rephrase your question like "What is right with Cobra-la?" and the answer can be simpler.

GI Joe fought ghosts for God sakes! Cobra La is not too fantastic for the Joe-verse.

I am not a hater.
Nemesis Enforcer = awesome...check Cobra La Guards = awesome...check Pythona = double awesome...check check The Cobra La characters were actually very cool. It was the whole spooooooooores thing that turned it all to poo. Well that and the whole Cobra Lalalalalalalalalalalala thing. People have to admit that seeing Pythona make her way to Serpentor's throne room was, by far, one of the best Joe cartoon sequences ever. Not only did we get to see the deepest interiors of the TD and Serpentor's throne room but we got to see some major buttkicking and...*gasp* ...cobra soldiers actually dying. Very cool stuff. |

I loved the bio-engineering aspect of it. I just didn't like the origin story for it. For me, there is no ancient cicilization. In my Joe-verse, Golobulous is just some mad scientist, who's been working way too long in some half forgetten Cobra lab complex, and has taken to experimenting on himself, and anybody else who might be in the room.
There's a big sign on the wall that says "COBRA LABS" but some weird techno-organic growth has obscured the last two letters.

I've utilized them into my Joe-verse by adapting the works of H.P. Lovecraft. My Joe team has as much in common with the X-Files or Hellboy's BPRD as it does with modern Delta Force. It was weird watching the movie in '87, when all you knew of the Joe was from the comics and file cards, and then all of a sudden, CC was an entirely different species. But think of all the other hard to swallow changes Joe has gone through over the years... The whole Serpentor story was about as incredible as the Cobra-La story. The Fridge was a Joe - one of the world's top elite anti-terrorist task force team members? The Cobra Pogo Ballistic Battle Ball? Doc later became Carla Grier, a woman. Dialtone was supposed to take the same route for the movie. And Ripcord's race changed.
Lastly, anyone who accepts "Fatal Fluffies", or Furries, or whatever, but questions Cobra-La, I have nothing more to say to you. Good day, sir. |

I think those are valid PLOT points but I find the character designs to be excellent. The original figures were good for their day but I'd love to have an opportunity to buy them updated in the 25th anniversary style and articulation.

Who the hell supposedly accepts fatal fluffies? Someone needs a lesson in Sarcasm as a result of disgust.
