Such as the different Viper figures such as Neo, Crimson and the neon green viper figures. That and what the hell GI Joe Pit figures such as female Dial Tone and an actual Stone/Brendan Fraser action figure.
I think Hasbro got carried away with making too many different Viper figures and stuff like female Dial Tone and way too many multipacks that noone even saw in stores. |

i do not think they got carried away. what they did or do, is the problem. they do not give consumers enough time to buy the toys they want. plus they jump to the the next thing(poc) too quickly. i have noticed that must times they only give a 6 month window of oppurtunity to buy items and then dump the toys to ross or tj maxx or put the toys on clearence. i dont know about u but i can only buy so many toys a month, basically i need more tie to buy every item per toy line. the other thing is that they r teaching or training us to wait til the items go to secondery retailers, cuz we can get it cheaper. all in all there ideas on marketing is just bad business all around.

I agree with shawn. The shelf life is so limited these days it is buy it when you see it or do without. I guess we got online ways to get things, but from standard retail it's a crapshoot.

To be honest I think they gave up too quickly on ROC. "Oh no the glut of toys we put out didn't sell, let's give up on the movie line all together." I liked what we were about to get with the continuing POC line from the ROC. Then, they dropped a bomb of, nope sorry we are starting over, see ya in another year retail. The ROC stuff just sat there with no real support. I am sure retail loved getting stuck holding the bag. Check out how much we saw of POC for that love note to Hasbro.
The POC that we finally got was undoubtedly cool, but I think would have been better for the brand if the movie side had still been there. Last edited by DR.Sin; 03-12-2013 at 02:21 AM.. |

To me there were too many versions all around the same time... the original cartoons and 25th figures, comics with so many different story lines going on at once, then ROC, then Resolute, POC, then Renegades, now Retaliation... all with different origins, characters, etc...
Too many versions. Too many different origins, story lines, remakes, re-imaginings... |

Where I think ROC went wrong was overpricing the vehicles($15 for a Mole pod, $40+ for a SMALL Night Raven?!...on another note, Steel Crusher was okay for $25, same with the gunship), and by not making many figures that could fit in stylistically with the 25th collection. The latter is the big difference with Retaliation since a good number of "offscreen" figures for Retaliation can fit in with the 25th/30th/POC lines. ROC didn't have much variety, it was mostly movie style toys with some 25th repaints and only a few figures that could fit in with both collections.
I think the GI Joe Battlers and 12" figures were a massive waste of tooling/money as well. The 12" bodies Hasbro used WEREN'T even the super articulated ones they used in the early 2000's! That shows how cheap ROC was, Hasbro thought they could get away with selling outdated toys just because it was a movie toyline. If it were up to me, I would have eradicated all plans for 12" Joes and Joe Battlers, and instead bring back Sigma 6 with some new sculpts and movie-accurate costumes. |
