The varying sex and race changes were a little much and some turned out better then others. The best turned out was female Dialtone. I don't really think Wayans fit the role of Ripcord, the redhead HALO jumper. Why couldn't they keep some characters with the classic ARAH feel?

Things got carried away in the sense that retailers massively over-ordered the early product. Hasbro does bear some blame for this, in that they undoubtedly marketed it to retailers as "the next Transformers."
But ultimately it was retailers that pulled the trigger, hoping/expecting that these were going to be hot sellers like the Transformers movie toys had been. Otherwise Hasbro produced well-articulated, detailed, and accessorized movie-accurate figures. The quality of the RoC figures was generally quite good. The designs? Well, that's subjective. I rather liked a lot of them...just not as traditional Joes and Cobras (I made them new factions within my personal "Joe-Verse" and think they work fantastically in that regard). The PoC delay was entirely retailers...they basically told Hasbro "You need to give us more time to get rid of this movie stuff, and we don't want MORE "movie stuff" once that year is passed." |

I have a feeling this conversation will continue with "retaliation". I don't see any of those garbage vehicles moving. My tru has three times as many vehicles as figures. You guys can't tell me your happy with how they are releasing figures this year. Only 2 release dates. Poc might of been hard to find, but at least new product came out every couple of months. The way it looks right now, ill get new figures one more time this year...to me that's a huge bummer.

The problem with ROC was it was all black too much Snake eyes Storm Shadow Duke and Rip Cord. I am not sure they learned there lesson since then...
But I feel satisfied with my ME collection so if this fails whatever.

no they haven't. I went to a good ten retailers yesterday and the only retaliation figures on shelves were SE, SS, and Roadblock. I get that they want those figures to sell the brand as they are big characters but I think if they should put any figures in multiples per case it needs to be troop builders. I mean, Battle Kata Roadblock and sneak attack SS and SE are actually great figures but at 10 dollars and being so easy to find I have to hold out for ones I really want. Hopefully though kids will want those figures so stores get more shipments of the later/better waves.

I understand the argument that ROC was our only hope for a G.I. Joe renaissance and a possible return to the glory days but I did not like anything about the line. The packaging was cheap and crappy looking, making G.I. Joe look more like Corps or some no frills action figure line. The Joes looked bland in all black or their blue camo fatigues. The vipers were the stupidest Joes I think I have ever seen. The only figures I liked and got during that whole debacle was the TRU exclusive Firefly, City Strike Snake Eyes, The Doctor in black lab coat and swapped out the head with a chrome face CC for a simple custom, the Eel 25th repaint, the Para-Viper 25th repaint and that battle set with and only for the all black City Strike Snake Eyes. The rest of the entire line was straight dollar store throwaways. Again this is just my opinion.
Also I agree with the fact I hate the "buy it the first time you see it or you probably will never get a chance again at retail" world we live in. I cannot afford to buy many figures a month, usually only one or two if I am lucky. So just to point out before I start to hear it: that is why I don't pre-order online because I cannot afford that many Joes at any given time. |

It sounds to me like you enjoyed a lot more about the line than you realize. all the figures you purchased barely totals half the figures even being released period for Retaliation. Plus...the figure in your avatar is a repaint of a ROC fig. I sorrowfully regret not getting the ROC Para viper. he's so awesome and HTF now. :(

I'm glad they got creative with that line. The first wave was, I guess, supposed to be more movie accurate, so all we got were figures in black and blue-gray camos. Who the hell needs 50 more figures like that with different names? I for one welcomed seeing the TRU Doc in his orange and yellow duds, as well as other figures that broke out of the bland mold.

I thought that RoC was one of the better toy lines. We didn't get many of the 25th in the UK and a lot of them I didn't really like. RoC got me back into AF/GI Joe because I thought the designs were pretty cool.
My particular favourites were Elite Viper, Cobra Commander, Pit Commando and Helix. The best bit is I can still go to my local TrU and pick up any of those figures for a couple of bob. |
