Inspired by another post and the AFA fiasco, what is the worst thing to happen to you or your collection? I will start...
I had a pretty sizable Hot Wheels collection I parted with last year. My son (age one and a half at the time) manged to get a sealed, mint "Light My Firebird" off the shelf and open it. The card back was torn and the car was MIA for a few weeks. It happened when my oldest daughter was babysitting, and it was hid from me for over a week. |

The worst thing for me happened just recently. My Terrordrome sits on a painted table that i made. For whatever reason when it sits for a long time without moving it almost fuses to the table. The Last time this happened a few months back i cracked the upper deck piece trying to move it. I'm still pretty pissed about it. I need to put a mat under it to prevent this from happening again. I don't know why this happens. The table is three years old now at least, so the paint should be dry lol. I enjoy repairing figures and vehicles that i buy, but when i cause damage to my stuff it drives me insane.

I was cleaning one of my vintage childhood vehicles, I think it was the MAGGOT, in my basement, I left it out for a few days ontop of a bin to air dry, what I didn't realize was that a beam of sun light was hitting it during the day, so when I came back a week later to get it, theres a streak of yellow going down the middle of it. I never realized yellowing to sunlight can happen so bloody fast!

It is a little long... but if you are interested, it gives you the info you need. My collection hasn't suffered any real issues. But I had a close call I think about 2 years ago. We had an earthquake and my Tomahawk took a nose dive off the top of a 6 foot bookcase. To may amazement, she checked out OK. |

This is off topic... but I wanted to pass along this link about paint.... maybe helping others prevent your problem. I am going to be building bookcases at some point and did some research about this very thing. Paint sticking has to do with the latex not drying to a hard finish. Most use oil... but that is a mess. I think paint companies are going with this new technology that cleans up with water but dries very hard like an oil paint. Maybe this will help....

Having everything boxed in storage going on two years now. It has been horrible not seeing my stuff. We just do not have the space after we moved.

I had a buddy that had his entire MASK collection in storage... some MISB items and lots of loose pieces in plastic totes. When he got his new place he found out the storage units were infested by roaches and mice. All the boxes of the sealed items were ruined and some of the loose items were covered in rat feces and chewed. He took them to small claims court and won nothing.

The worst thing to happen to my collection... was me. Back in the 80's I had a ruthless streak of pyromania and burnt most of my original 'Action Force' in a cardboard 'base' I'd built.

When I turned 13 many of my originals suffered the same fate. I also had a hellicopter "crash" in the edge of a pond and lost a v1 Firefly, v2 Storm Shadow, and a couple of other figures I cannot remember. Found the Stormy a couple of years later after the pond and dried up a bit, cleaned him up, replaced the o ring and screws and still have him.
