I went to TRU and spent some time looking at the Elite Force paratroopers and they are pretty cool. For me they arent great because I am an articulation buff and they lack head up and down movement and t crotch hip joints. What would it take for you all to get into these kind of toys? They have great detail, paint, weapons, realism, accessories, and sculpt so what more do they need? just articulation?

Sometimes a touch of fantasy is needed. Too much realism can be.. boring.

As I found out with Indiana Jones... All it takes is for them to hang them up on peg hooks and I'll buy anything!

Personally, for a toy line to "click" for me, there needs to be a nostalgic connection.
Overall, toys today are superior in just about every way to those that I owned and played with as a child in the late 70s and 80s. More detailed sculpts, incredible paint apps, more points of articulation than you could have ever wished for.....but I don't want any of them unless I look at them and feel a piece of my childhood. So.....I'll keep collecting Joes and He-Man as long as they keep making them and while I don't collect anymore, I'll continue to have an interest in Star Wars toys. And if they bring back Crystar, the Centurions, Visionaries, M.A.S.K., or AD&D....I'll be on it. Otherwise, no matter how cool it looks, I won't buy it.

Square-butt legs are a dealbreaker for me. GI Joe has had swivel legs for 26 years now, yet even Hasbro's own other lines don't. (Part of why Indy failed IMO) And yeah, too much realism makes it sorta suck for me. The Joe team doesn't even really excite me. Cobra is perfect, the nostalgia factor is there, the designs are top notch, and I just get that fluttery, "Damn, that's awesome" feeling when I look at them. Not so much for the Joe side.

Star Wars has always been my number one toy line. T-crotch design doesn't bother me. Joe is my second favorite line. With me getting more into customizing and creating my own "verse's", anything in the 1/18 range is a welcomed addition to my collection. I don't collect the DC 3 3/4 fig's because, they're too small next to the 25th Joe's, Indy, SW, Marvel, etc. But, if I were collecting vintage Joe's & SW, then the DC fig's would go good with those.

if it draws my interest, heck i'll get into such line.
but if it just another a waste of money, forget it. i think the best way would be to determine if would it peak your interest. like one line, the 3.75inch WWE toys. they might not look good if you're into wrestling, but along side with joes, it might work. the upcoming Marvel figs are clinging my interest, but not the entire line. i might just get the few figs that i want and those that might go well with my joes. the rest are so meh to me.

Uhhh...this is a scary question for me.
I've told myself I will get "The Hobbit" action figures if/when the movie's made and there are such things. I'd get classic Voltron action figures of the characters, not so much the Lions. I'll probably get as many of the 1980 Flash Gordon movie action figures as they make, assuming the series with Dale, Klytus and Prince Barin I've had on pre-order forever does not get cancelled. Typically I get what I want and don't collect entire lines. It wasn't always like that... |
