Sorry, I'm not sure I understand... I don't believe so, and I like I said before, you could get the Homefront Heroes package if you weren't attending.

I predict a few fans buying the second run and a lot of scalpers replenishing their stock.
I won't be able to buy this set, so for those that can't comprehend a non attendee owning this set, don't worry about me, I won't have it. :( |

Essentially you're saying "I should be happier because I had and took the opportunity to go to the Con and no one else should!" Which brings me right back around to my original post in this thread. Last edited by Jmacq1; 11-14-2012 at 12:35 PM.. |

Only if you were fortunate enough to be online in the few hours it was available, and didn't suffer any web-transaction mishaps due to a buggy system. Unlike many previous years, Homefront Hero packages were NOT available for a reasonable amount of time this go-round, which is undoubtedly part of why they're doing another run at all.

The point I was trying to make was that the Club's primary purpose (aside from making money) is to be a source of GI joe products geared towards collectors, not geared towards people whose goal is trying to flip their products. Yes collectors are often scalpers too, and in a free market system, you sell what the market allows. I just think allowing the club members access to these figures for the purpose of collecting is more important than allowing scalpers access to them just to flip the Club's products. That's one reason I think it's a good thing the club is allowing a second run for this set. Scalpers viewed the initial set as a way of eBay-raping the fan base with outrageous prices, and now that the club is offering a second chance, the prices on those unsold initial sets should hopefully come down....and best of all, the proceeds from this second run actually go to those who helped put the whole thing together, the club, rather than supporting the scalper.
Actually, one of the focal points of the Club's license is to increase attendance at the Con. The point is this. The con set is supposed to be for con attendees. Its special for that reason. Sure, there are other items there that are exclusive to the con, but at additional cost (and to be honest, not always worth the extra cost). The con set is special because it's part of going to con. If I can just order it and stay home, and not have all lithe other expenses of con (travel, hotel, food, etc.) then the con set loses it's "magic". Do I feel bad that not everyone can go and get one of these sets? Yes. In the same way that i feel bad that I can't have a City Strike Scarlett and a vintage Pimp Daddy Destro and various other "Grails". But that's the way life is, and I'm not gonna sit here and cry about how unfair it is. You want one of these sets? Go to con. Save up to do it. I saved for this con by saving $5 bills every time I got one, and I did it because I knew I wasn't going to have an income by the time con started.

But still, there was a better way to do this. Bagged sets... maybe a limited "Oktober Guard" set (slightly recoloured or not) without the IG figures... They still shouldn't tell you it's going to be a limited edition of whatever number of units, then up that (to who knows what) when it turns out to be a hit. There's other ways to get the figures to the collectors. I like that Oktober Guard mini-set idea, the more I think about it... especially if they retooled Horror Show, who kind of sucked, imo. We'd save on their ridiculous shipping prices, too...

Yeah, I agree that sucked.

All I'm saying is that I don't see anything wrong whatsoever with the Club finding a way to get more little plastic men into the hands of members that want them. I -do- understand the "exclusivity" argument even if I don't necessarily agree with it, and I wouldn't count on this becoming much of a "precedent." This is a year where the Club desperately needs to hold on to ALL its' members after some of the other fiascoes that it's endured, and I would wager that the number of people that are truly going to be so offended that others might get a shot at the set for "retail" price that they'd quit the Club or refuse to buy their products is far, far smaller than the number of people that having another shot at this set will please. The CON exclusive set, by that same logic, should be available to only those who go to con, or register for one of the limited Homefront sets. Please note, that most of the arguments against doing this have nothing to do with values or prices. I've never mentioned secondary value once, because I don't sell my con sets. The arguments have been about damaging the specialness of the exclusive con set. And by saying that the set is limited to X number, and then making more, they ARE going back on their word, unless they change the set somehow.
