My favorites:
Cobra BAT Single Carded: COBRA B.A.T. (v17), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! The original 25th version is the best imo... love the detailed wash on the metalic arms. Although you also have to get the battle damaged head from one of the other versions for some variety. 30th Cobra Viper COBRA VIPER (v28), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! Hell yeah. Mirrored mask. The PERFECT tribute/update to the original imo. Fantastic articulation, and great updated sculpt. And slightly improved over the POC version with the new red arms and better weapons. POC/30th Steel Brigade STEEL BRIGADE (v3A), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! I had no attachment to this guy as I never had one as a kid. But in hand I LOVE him. Just be sure to get the original release with black missiles in the backpack and green on the kneepads... much better body sculpt. POC Snake Eyes SNAKE EYES (v54), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! Perfect update to the Commando version. POC/20th Cobra Trooper COBRA TROOPER (v15), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! Another great update. I'm somewhat annoyed by the removeable kneepads, helmet, knife, silencer, gun (so many small parts easily lost in play), but this is a really nice update. Also annoyed by his limited head movement and slightly downward head position. But really, very cool. Can you tell I like army builders? Still waiting for the ultimate Duke and Cobra Commander tributes. |

The 30th Anniversary Sci-Fi is an excellent figure and I highly recommend that as your first modern figure. He's got the look and feel of the V.1 Sci-Fi but with the updated articulation and the excellent detail of the 30th/POC figures.

If you want a redue of a classic, hands down POC Low Light. Best remake ever!
If you want an update POC Snow Job is pretty cool. |

I'd go with the following:
Joes-Torpedo (25th), Flint (Hall of Heroes), City Strike Snake Eyes(ROC) or "Ultimate" SE (POC), Sci Fi (30th), Lifeline (30th) Cobras-Para Viper, Eel, Snow Serpent, ROC Ice Viper, Wild Weasel |

Depends on what you're after.
For solid, faithful updates of ARAH figures: - B.A.T. (Hall of Heroes) -- Really is a great figure. - Battle Armor Cobra Commander (single card) - Beachhead (comic pack or Hall of Heroes) - Croc Master (25th) - Eel (25th) - Lifeline (30th) - Airtight (30th) - Sci-Fi (30th) - Spirit (25th) -- Some don't like the head sculpt, but I think he's perfect - Tunnel Rat (comic pack or RoC pack) -- Same as Spirit re: head sculpt I think LowLight is good, but if you're just dabbling in modern figures, you might get frustrated by him because of all the kibble and gear. If you like later-era ARAH, then the Range Viper and Alley Viper from the 7-pack are really great figures. Cartoon-figure wish fulfillment? - Cobra Commander (Best of 80s DVD set) -- Finally, a proper chrome dome! - Destro (DVD pack) - Lady Jaye (5-pack) - Storm Shadow (Hall of Heroes) - Wild Bill (comic pack) -- People diss this mold, but it's absolutely awesome to have this guy in Sunbow colors. Comic-figure wish fulfillment? - Arctic Snake Eyes (25th) -- The necklace alone makes him worth the price. TOMAX (v6), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! XAMOT (v6), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! I got mine for about $18 (including shipping) loose, so not toooo pricey...especially considering what Retaliation figs are retailing for now.

No 25th Tomax and Xamot in there? I got these guys a few weeks ago, and I'm thrilled with them. I love getting a 25th figure that doesn't cause me to end up thinking, "Yeah, pretty good...but man, this could really use a 30th update..."
