I've always been a GI JOE purist. If it didn't have the Joe logo on the side I always passed it up...I never wanted to get caught up in collecting another toy line so I hardly even noticed them. However, I can't tell you how many times after putting together some Joe vehicle that I searched high and low for (not to mention the gas $$ wasted looking for it) I'm left scratching my head asking myself "this is it?".
After seeing some of these "other" vehicles and what you guys have done with them I'm starting to be swayed into thinking these are the better deal. After all GI JOE is nothing more then a brand name. I've often looked at other vehicles mande by CORPS or World Peacekeepers only to pass it up saying..."this would be cool if it was made by Hasbro and said GI JOE" All I do is display the stuff on a shelf. Maybe it's time to start thinking outside the box and try something new. |

I was like you for a while. But when the 25th line started I didn't think Hasbro would start making vehicles again. And I figured they'd neve get around to making any helicopters, so I bought the BBI Apache and Little Bird at Target. Now I've added the Humvees, a tank, a patrol boat, the watchtower, command post and bridge playset from PTE. Every time I'm in the stores, I look for other cool vehicles that would work well with Joes, whether it's a motorcycle, or a pickup truck or whatever. These days with the internet it's not hard to buy stickers with GI Joe or Cobra logos or you could design and print your own. Then all of those vehicles COULD say GI Joe or Cobra on them. |

The thing is, they AREN"T Joe vehicles. They may be more realistic, yes, but they are not in the JOEverse unless you pretend they are. The Abrams tank, yes, is like the MOBAT, but it is not the MOBAT. I am after nostalgia, not reinventive creations.
And you can get all the Joe and Cobra stickers you want at Cobrastickers.com And let's face it, none of these vehicles would be in the Joeverse if someone hadn't pretended they were in the first place. As a kid I used to mix my Star Wars figures and vehicles with my Joes. Too me that's what toys are for. |

I don't know...after years of only buying official Joe product (no matter what they throw at us) I can't help but think of all the cool vehicles that I passed up that would have worked well (if not better) then my official Joe product. Maybe Hasbro has had their claws in me too long. As far back as I can remember all I ever wanted in childhood was a 3 3/4" military themed line of action figures. GI JOE was that from about 1982-1986....then it got weird with all the sci-fi vehicles and neon colors and squirting action down the road. I think many of these vehicles that have come out from toy lines outside the Joeverse are EXACTLY what I wish Hasbro would (or in many cases should) release. It more or less throws it back on track to what I invisioned as a kid and actually is even a nod to the original GI JOE of the 1960's and 70's. Just cool military vehicles and accessories. To each his own....but I might just take a better look at some of this stuff next time I go hunting. |

To each his own....but I might just take a better look at some of this stuff next time I go hunting. That's the thing, they SHOULD be doing this. Hasbro should be at least on equal footing with what MCToy and Lanard, hell, even Chap Mei are doing. It may be unfair to ask for BBI and 21st quality and size, but they could easily be doing what the other guys are. I'm stumped at how MCToys can release a pretty damn close to scale (if not a bit large, fuselage-wise) AH-6 with figures and multiple accessories for 12.99. Hell, throw out everything but the Bird and you're still doing better than the H.I.S.S. at 14.99 |
