I always assumed the 8-per-case was because in the beginning the line was unproven. I'm a little surprised they haven't started shipping 12-per-case like the SW stuff.

Didn't Hasbro lose money on VvV and Spy Troops? An owner of the local comic shop(oddly, he doesn't sell 25th joes) explained to me the reason why the figures aren't availible is because Hasbro lost money on the last toylines and need to create an "artificial demand". Thus Hasbro intentionally did it.
I expect this to change after the movie is released though. But who knows what 2009 holds. |

One case of 8 new figures at a time across several waves keeps the line fresh at retail. It keeps you coming back looking for more new waves of figures. Its the same thing with vehicles.

Because they're friggin retards! Just like Mattel. Remember the 2002 Masters Of The Universe line?
6 figures per case: 4 Skeletor 2 Beast Man 0 Mer-Man I'll never forget that day when they first hit at Target. The guy told me he had a bunch of cases in the back. I got excited & I told him I wanted Mer-Man. I didn't get shit! Every case was 4 Skeletors & 2 Beast-Mans. This new GI Joe line reminds me so much of the 2002 MOTU line it's not funny. Tiny cases, chase figures, same damn pegwarmers all over the country, the good figures are always gone as soon as they hit the pegs, 50 billion repaints of the same friggin characters that nobody wants. Duke is the new He-Man. Cobra Commander is the new Skeletor. Same shit, different year! Last edited by B.A.T.; 11-28-2008 at 07:04 AM.. |

I say (and have been for a while), if they bump up the case size to 12, you can get 2 complete sets of a wave per case with 2 spaces left over for carry over (popular characters/troop builders) figures. The current case size of 8 makes no sense. They should focus on getting each wave to the shelves in sufficient quantities and use the remaining 2 spots for fan favorites. Say by the time wave13 hits, they should have sufficient data from waves 10 & 11 to see what is moving most at retail and fill those spaces accordingly. HASBRO WE WANT NEW FIGURES! NOT CONSTANT RE RELEASES OF WAVE 1-8! It is a lovely sight to see pegs full of Joes, but when they are all Wild Bills and Barbecues from the multiple revision cases the cram down our throats, I tend to spend my money on other things. I guess Hasbro doesn't want my cash. |

Same shit, different year! but yeah the peg warmers have increased. my target is brimming with wild bill, spirit, & ig destro. they have released destro as much as duke & cobra commander. yeah these revision cases have not been the best. those internet cases with more army builders should be the ones in the stores, not crap like wave 10 revision 3 with only one new character (mutt). |

Small case assortments started a few years ago with the Star Wars line. All the major toy makers have gone to small cases when it comes to their action figures. I use to get large case assortments at my store several years ago with Star Wars and Marvel figures. 24 figures to a case and no garuntee of assortment.
Hasbro decided to cut down on case assortments size to keep store overhead down and the costs of shipping down. When a store purchases a single case of figures they are pretty much garunteed a complete assortment with a smaller case size. Star Wars and GIJoe come in small assortments of 8-12 figures, Mcfarlen will start next year and so on. So if a store decides to purchase multiple cases then they know how many of the figures and of which ones they are getting, also this is the benifit of the various revision cases, if there is a certain assortment that sells well then we buy that assortment. Unlike the old days of surprise of what may or may not be in the assortments and no garuntee at all of how many of any one figure a store could get. Hasbro did this to help the retailer as are many of the other companies. It helps us keep overhead under control. As for the big box stores they have contracts with the companies. WAL-MART says "we'll buy X cases at X prices for X assortments" that is why they end up with these massive ammounts of figures starting out and they sit for so long. WAL-MART and the other stores will also sell over stock or back stock to one another depending on how sells are. WAL-MART does'nt see GIJoe, they see product and cost. |

I thought I saw a picture of a vintage case of joes in the past and I thought it showed 48 or 72 figures in the case. Now that is cranking out the product lol

I expect this to change after the movie is released though. But who knows what 2009 holds. Figures were hard to find because retailers underestimated demand, pure and simple. Quote:

It is a lovely sight to see pegs full of Joes, but when they are all Wild Bills and Barbecues from the multiple revision cases the cram down our throats, I tend to spend my money on other things. I guess Hasbro doesn't want my cash. Let me reiterate, REPACKS, as in no changes from figures from as recently as earlier this year to 2005. The big problem with your suggestion of using two spots for fan favorites is....who constitutes a fan favorite? Buzzer is by definition, a fan favorite. As would Lady Jaye or Serpentor. All were significant shelfwarmers (to the point some markets sTILL have Serpentors or Buzzers sitting around). Hasbro puts these cases together months, sometimes as much as a YEAR before we see them. They do a "best guess" based on previous figure sales. That is why you see Duke, CC and Snake Eyes so often, they are PROVEN sellers. Also bear in mind that many of these "shelfwarmers" were hot items at one point, I still recall all the gripes about NOT finding any Major Bludd, or BBQ, or Bazooka figures a few months back. Now these are all quite plentiful. And if you think this is bad, consider how it was in the 80s when you had one assortment...FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR
