I have looked around on the site for any discussion for this but I couldn't find anything. Hope this is in the correct category to start this thread. Sorry if it is not.
I just wanted to comment on anothers users comments on the new Baroness figure coming out which has the spider woman web paint effect. The comments ranged from her looking like Harvey Potter and so fowarth. Others didn't mind. I am in that category. I thought the figure looked Ok. However, the guy made a good point in that Hasbro is making all kinds of repaints of figures already made. The first couple of waves needed alot of help! Flint to me looks like Mr. Spock with a beret and without the pointy ears! We finally got a cartoon accurate Lady Jaye in the DVD pack without that annoying hat. However, her cheekbones are a little too pronounced. I finally have come to the conclusion that Hasbro isn't really making cartoon accurate faces for these 25th anniversary characters. And why not? The cartoon faces looked great or that is what I am used to anyway. Perhaps there are more guys out there like me? I know Hasbro has their sculptors struggling to make something look good with a piece of plastic no larger than 4" in height. I cut those guys a lot of slack as a consequence. Then they got a bunch of Chinese guys trying to paint in the whites of eyes and irises. Most of the time they miss and they look like Sloth off of Goonies. But I still cut them slack! The guy made a good point with the cartoon Baroness looking the best or at least the most familiar. Hasbro should take their ques from the cartoon if they haven't already for the most difficult to please figures. Take Scarlett. Both the Pilot Glenda homage and the first Scarlett both look nothing like the cartoon and the cartoon face looked great. It may not be human accurate but that is what we are used to Hasbro. What does everyone else think?

The only problem with making them look like the cartoons is that you'll have the toy guys and comic guys come out and be upset with them for not making them look like those characters
As for Who do other figures look like? 25th Bazooka looks like Burt Reynolds to me and the vintage Baroness looks like Michael Jackson (Who knew Hasbro designers could see into the future ) |

Yes, it is what YOU are used to. But there are more then one type of Joe fan out there. There are ones that are fans of the Cartoon. There are ones that are fans of the Comic. And there are fans of the Figures themselves. So by your logic they must make atleast three versions of every figure just so the can make a small group of fan boys happy and sell less figures, OR they can make a version that trys to capture the best aspects of all three groups of fans, and sell more to the greater majority and all the minorities. For the record I like the original version of Lady Jaye, becuase I had the original figure. I like that it has the annoying hat becuase it is accurate to the original figure. You know, the figures right? The toys the cartoon was made to sell? The figures the 25th line was made to be in honor of? Maybe they were going for figure accuracy first? THEN they went back and made a combination of the comic and cartoon versions. Sometimes I prefer a cartoon accurate, sometimes I prefer and toy accurate, and sometimes I prefer comic accurate. Examples: Cartoon Accurate I prefer YOJOE.COM | Cobra Commander I like that it has the white stripe from the cartoon Comic Accurate I prefer YOJOE.COM | Zartan I know alot of people will disagree with me on that one, but I was glad they went with the DD version of zartan. People will disagree with me, I am fine with that. Am I being Picky too? Yes I suppose so, but atleast I am glad they are covering as many versions as possible and not worrying about the cheekbones on a 4 inch figure. |

Sorry, the "guy" I was referring to was angrypandaink
It was in the thread about the new baroness. I always thought the comics in many ways reflected the cartoon art. Also, I always felt the "Revenge of Cobra" mini series set the precedent for Lady Jaye because this is were she was introduced. Alas, she had no hat. Also in issue #30 or #32 Lady Jaye was introduced. Alas again! She had no hat. Only when hasbro came out with the figure 6 - 8 months later did she have a bloody black hat. I hated it but I figured it was because they didn't know how to properly sculpted and mass produce a properly feminine face. Look at Cover Girl at that time. Boy she was a looker...not! By the way, Cover Girl was introduced in the MASS devise and you know what? She was a blonde. Not the bull dyke looking gal we got. For once I would like to have that Blond Cover Girl. It would be cool! Also, I think it is important to have a face look like that what the character was introduced as. I am very happy we have a hatless Lady Jaye now. However, the face is off from the cartoon. My rationalization is they sculptors at Hasbro are trying to make realistic/lifelike features for the figures. Not characters who look like either the cartoon or comic. You gotta make compromises and I will make plenty of concessions just as long as the figures look descent and I think they are cool. I just wish we didn't get so many damn repaints. Instead, we need new characters. If I seemed a little nit picky, I am just sensitive about how the female joes look because we got so few back in the day and the ones back in the day sucked bad. Now since they are making all fresh stuff, there is such an opportunity for a wealth of new and exciting renovations to the collection! Still, the 25th Flint looks like Mr Spock in a beret. Only with more muscle in the forearms!
