Each subline held a separate price-point. Each offered something in the way of a gadget or gimmick to jusify the price point. Vehicles were also offered in pricing tiers, typically one Joe one Cobra (The Barracuda sub and the Cobra Rat, for example, or the Storm Eagle jet and the Cobra Liquidator). Battle Corps shows a clear wave style release schedule: Battle Corps Wave 1 Bazooka (1) Cross-Country (2) Iceberg (3) Beach-Head (4) H.E.A.T.Viper (5) Alley-Viper (6) Roadblock - repaint of 1992 figure Wetsuit - repaint of 1992 figure Flak-Viper - repaint of 1992 figure Battle Corps Wave 2 Colonel Courage (10) Leatherneck (11) Snow Storm (12) Outback (13) Night Creeper Leader (14) Dr. Mindbender (15) Gung-Ho (16) of 1992 figure Barricade (17) of 1992 figure Firefly (18) of 1992 figure Battle Corps Wave 3 Duke (19) Frostbite (20) Keel-Haul (21)* Backblast (22) * Crimson Guard Commander (23) Cobra Commander (24) Wild Bill (25) - repaint of 1992 figure General Flagg (26) - repaint of 1992 figure Cobra Eel (27) - repaint of 1992 figure Battle Corps Wave 4 (DX'ed DEF Wave 2) Law (28) Mace (29) Muskrat (30) Long Arm (31) Gristle (32) Headhunter Stormtrooper (33) Bulletproof (34) - repaint of DEF Wave 1 Headhunters (35) - repaint of DEF Wave 1 Mutt & Junkyard (36) - repaint of DEF Wave 1 Technically, Keel Haul and Backblast were repaints too, but having been years since their original releases, they are clearly a case of cost-cutting as opposed to a clear case of refreshing last year's offerings with deliberate repaints. Proof positive that the 1992 toys had already ceased production, despite being available in the early part of 1993 - Hasbro's intent was to get mileage out of the molds thru repaints as the industry was no longer sustaining 2 year shelf-life of the same exact product. |

The other thing is that when Star Wars came out Kenner never thought the movie would be a smash hit. Also,A lot of people didn't think that 20+ years down the road a moc 21 back boba Fett would pay your way through collage or buy you a house.Same with the Joes to say on topic. Now days we have folks who go out and buy up everything they can find and stick it on Ebay.Things have changed a lot.As for the price of the figures, remember that everything cost less back in those days.

The biggest change that people forget about from when "we" grew up and now is that the marked for "toys" has changed drastically.
These days kids want an ipad or expensive electronics more then they want action figures. I talked to a very nice lady of a toy store on one of my runs here (In Norway), she was the same lady that sold me turtles when I was a kid! She told me that kids now a days lose interest in action figures and physical toys in general much much earlier. And because of that sales plummet, and she was quitting and selling her store. That's someone who's been at it for well over 20 years. And it's true, kids these days want gadgets more then they want action figures, so selection-wise in the stores they try not to buy to much of the various lines, because in the end, they won't sell as much as other things. |
