Why doesn't Hasbro do multiple simultaneous lines like there other franchises? Star Wars has several different lines out at the same time as do the Marvel figures. Avengers, Capt America, Thor, MU, Iron Man etc. Why don't we get POC, Renegades/30th and Retaliation at the same time. Is it because no one but us buys G.I. Joe?

Thanks man. That's what I figured. It's so sad that Hasbro had the Walt Disney mentality in the 80's, but don't put the effort in now. Cartoon, Comic, toys and most importantly commercials helped make the brand. It also helped that the first line could be bought for under $100. I know it's not possible to sell for those prices now, but the comic, toys and show hardly have any connection to each other now.

I asked this during the ROC line and Hasbro's answer was something along the lines of that it would "confuse" the kids.

Marvel has had 5 movies released in the past 4-5 years or so, Star Wars has been around since forever and has an animated series, and G.I.Joe? Well, there was a movie released 3 years ago that didn't do so well, and the animated series ran on an extremely unknown channel and is already canned. For them to run multiple lines at once would be a huge risk, and it all of it would most likely peg warm for months.

Gotta have retailers willing to carry two lines before you can make two lines. That only happens with sustained strong sales.

Hmm, were you here for DTC the first go 'round? Not exactly a success. Sure, the niche market of grown ass men might buy it, but little susie homemaker is probably not going to buy in for DTC for little johnny when his tastes change on a whim. Toys are usually holiday/birthday purchases or "In-the-moment" purchases. DTC and then a 1-2 week shipping wait is not going to work for the in-the-moment purchase.

But it also depends on the figures: Most collectors don't mind some clever kitbashing and repaints, but we want some new stuff mixed into it, too. |
