I think just like mostly everybody here i am disapointed and worried about the figures with the movie postponing. My biggest concern is what is hasbro gonna do to fill the next 9 months or so being that the retaliation figures have been delayed as well. However as i was thinking more on this a glimmer of hope popped in my head and i was wondering what you guys thought.
To me this glimmer of hope is the dollar general figures. The reason why is that literally up until a few weeks or so before the hit the stores no one really new anything about them, or that they existed for that matter. Gyre pretty much clued us in and even he thought at first they were maybe cancelled figures, then boom all over ebay and ghetto dollar stores. I guess the point i am trying to make is that we have quite a few months for hopefully hasbro to surprise us with some "fill" in waves. If the dollar joes are perhaps a small glimpse into what the can pull out of there hat, well heres to hoping they can surprise us with some more "cool" last minute Joes that we all love. |

Hmmm.... Shitty distribution, cheap repaints, insane ebay prices. Yep, I believe this falls into the new definition of "hope".

I really dig the DG figures, especially given their price-point and they're really no more ''cheap repaints'' than 90% of the other recent Joes (and anybody complaining about Hasbro's recycling of parts obviously hasn't ever collected the Marvel Universe line!)
OK, so the Cobra Trooper and Duke are both lacking a couple of accessories (although most Joe collectors will be able to remedy this without any issue) and the packaging is basic but beyond that I'm really impressed with these figures. Sometimes less is more. And whilst I wouldn't put too much stock in anecdotal evidence (either way) I found all six with little effort (in the second DG I visited) and sooner than I found many of the 30th Anniversary figures. Also, keep in mind they've only officially been out for, what, two weeks? Three weeks? I didn't find Storm Shadow until about 4 months after the original release date!

Iok don't try to reason with an angry mob. They have no capacity for understanding all they crave is a scapegoat.

I think the DG Joes are a great way for Hasbro to make up for some of the money they are losing out on by not having the Retaliation stuff on the shelves. Unlike the Retaliation stuff, these don't have the name or stink of Paramount on them, so all the profit from each toy goes to Hasbro. It was kind of a sneaky thing they did releasing them to dollar stores when at the time, the Retaliation stuff was supposed to be the main line. Almost like they were giving Paramount a little "whatever, dude. I do what I want. I am a toy loner, a rebel.". I do like the DG Joes.
Have no fear, the line isn't over and the movie will come out eventually. I would hope that despite what ever comes out in March, Jon Chu will be able to release his version. I would like to see what he made.

Now that the Retaliation products have been pulled, collectors go to the next best thing....the only thing.....Dollar Joes. I understand it, but it is sad really....look where we have come from the PoC days only 1 or 1 1/2 years ago...... |

If I could actually find them in my dollar generals I'd have some faith. For now nope.

I think the DG Joes are great for what they are- reasonably priced and accessorised figures. There is some great army building potential with Duke, Shipwreck and Cobra Trooper.
I like they articualtion they have much better than what we were getting with the Retaliation figs (weird swivel foot or no movement at all). I wish Hasbro would recognise a good thing when they have it- 1. Keep things simple (no spring loaded rocket launchers). 2. if you have a figure that is meant to be an army builder then pack enough in the case for that plan to work. 3. Adjust your price point- if you're selling the majority of your product at discount chains rather than at full retail that should tell you something. |
