They do that all time. Maybe not for that reason. But they do second offer for everyone that bid usually and just take what they can get. It's a bit backwards but they do it almost every time.

These sellers are gaming us. Their supply isn't known to us... though we'll catch on after the 1st couple auctions and price will plumet... Better to get $60 from a 2nd chance offer, than to only get $10 once the market realizes it's flooded. |

It's not about value it's about price. The value for these won't be evident for a few more years if not beyond that. So if you don't think it's "worth" it. That's a self-contained, personal assessment. And the same for if you DO think it's worth it. Until the hobby reveals otherwise down the road... it's a risk. Trust me... I've been there. Hehheh. But right now it is about price. It seems the price for these is trying to establish itself. Which in the Joe world is very hard to do. Some collect for nest egg, some for rarity, some for obscurity, some for customizing, some for preservation, and so on. The value won't rear it's head until all of that is sifted and ironed and looked back on with some sort of archived/noted eye much later down the road.
It also makes sense that most of the unproduced figures that might seem "common" are still likely fewer in number than production ones. Just look at cancelled POC SS and how much they sell for now (Sure I wish now that I had bought more than just one when they were like 8$ on Ebay, but honestly I was happy with my purchase before). These figures were available cheap for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised to see even the cancelled Ice Vipers that were ubiquitous on Ebay go for premium prices at some point in the near future. |
