I got into collecting due to finding a Night Raven for $12 on Clearance at Marshalls. I also picked up the Alpha Vehicles from Burlington Coat Factory , Bealls Outlet , Ross , TJ Maxx and Marshalls on clearance. Soon afterwards I was hooked.
To me this is the greatest line ever released for a movie based on a wide number of reasons. 1. Tons of great exclusives 2. Easy to find at discount stores 3. Awesome value 4. Massive releases of figures and vehicles more then any other toy line. 5. Vehicles and Playsets work well with Cartoon Series in most cases are repaints of Original ARAH releases. I could go on and on. I am not really a fan of the movie myself but I am a huge fan of the toys. |

Like it or not, I agree. If you look at the amount of stuff that came out under the Rise of Cobra name, it puts all other recent movie lines to shame. IMO there were more positives than negatives to the ROC stuff. Plus the Walmart and Target exclusives were awesome. Personally I think we'll be lucky if the Retaliation stuff is half as good. My 2 cents.

People will scoff, but I actually think you may be right. What else comes close? Star Wars is such a juggernaut of expanded universes & characters I'm not even sure the figures can be considered 'movie tie-ins' anymore, while the trash churned out for whatever Marvel movie happens to be doing the rounds always seem to be lacking.
You'll always get people who can't seperate their hatred of the film from the toys, but as a consistant, quality line of figures & vehicles based on a movie, ROC is hard to beat.

I seriously loved the RoC line. Too many people wanted 25th anniversary part 2 with that line, and that was never going to happen...

There was a lot of stuff, but a lot of it was not so good. I find it very funny that a line so many crapped on is being regarded as so great now.. Too funny.

I love RoC, both the toy line and the actual movie. The toy lone brought us awesome original characters, new takes on classics, on screen characters and remakes if original figures. Everything from Pit Commandos to Night Force Tunnel Rat to updated Flash and Charbroil. Plus the vehicles were bad ass. Steel Crusher is the best original vehicle we've gotten in at least 10 years.

There was a lot of nice stuff in ROC. Like the best version of the Snow Serpent ever made. I also liked the unmasked Storm Shadow with tennis shoes versus some sandle garbage. Also, thought Miller as the Baroness was awesome, and liked both of her figures.
I think the problem mostly lies with the movie, with Wayans being Ripcord and a terrible Breaker and Heavy Duty. I mean they sucked. And I didnt want them as Toys. I liked the reactive armor suits, and didnt mind everything black because in real life it mostly world be. For those that wanted 25th. . . heck I liked it too for awhile, but it got terribly stupid after awhile with all of the repaints and horrible paint jobs. ROC did have better quality most of the time, and while I didnt need a hundred versions of the Neo Viper, I settled on the one I did like. It did miss some things, but it also gave us POC which is my favorite. And yes, Retaliation is worse than VvV and I would be more than happy to walk into a Walmart and see a full display of ROC today. |

ROC toys were great. (Not the movie) Some things were silly like turtle vipers, There was enough good stuff to bridge over the 25th lovers & new fans.
If retaliation is a hit, I'd love to see some of the things hasbro may bring us, as part of additional waves. |
