Why not provide them with .44 Magnum Desert Eagle pistols? Our military should carry something stronger than the 5.56 and 9mm. 7.62 NATO is the ideal rifle cartridge, and .40, .44, .45 and .357 SIG are ideal for pistols. |

Unfortunately, costs factor into what type of weapons and ammo our troops carry in. A lot of that has to do with crappy NATO rules too.

If I were to send Android Troopers into combat, I would want my enemies to be facing some serious firepower.

The myth of being able to "carry more ammo into battle" is a joke, a perpetuated myth. You think they really care if it's uncomfortable to haul heavy ammo? The real reason isn't so simple, it's all based on the almighty dollar follow the money trail.

Those smaller rounds also require more ammunition to get the job done. Especially when they keep going to shorter and shorter rifles, which leads to lower muzzle velocity. A 9mm can take two or three rounds to stop somebody (and there have been field reports of this very scenario, from the middle east). A .45 will do it in one. The only real downside to a .45 is the chance of overpenetration. They have a habit of going clear through a person. It's why a lot of police departments are going to .40 calibre pistols. An M14 with a 22" barrel can engage at ranges that no 5.56 can dream of achieving. It's always nice to be able to tear up your enemies, before they can reach you.
