This question is not a rant. It's just a question. It perplexes me why I can't find GI JOE figures at retail. I know the arguments. "it's not popular" "it does not sell".
It sure seems to sell ok. A case comes in and I get a tip about it. I show up to buy and then it's gone before I get there. Then I wait a week, month, whatever. Another case shows up, gone. Here is what I don't get. Does it really not sell? Obviously it does if it is gone so quick. If it does not, then why does a store even waste keeping six or so pegs constantly empty in between all the other lines? If I was a store manager, I would completely wipe it out to make room for all the other lines that DO sell. In reality, each joe peg I refuse to stock is room I could put more Star Wars, Transfromers, Marvel etc... in. But no. I still keep empty spaces for Joes I refuse to order because they don't sell. Even though when I decide to order a case for the hell of it it is gone as soon as I put it out. I'm not looking at this as a consumer. I am just questioning why a manager of a store keeps open neglected space for a product they will not stock.

They are ignorant to the issue, or they just don't care.

Apparently, that is true. If I was the store manager, I would just fill the space with more transformers or star wars or ben ten. Stuff that does sell. But they don't. They keep joe pegs up there and keep them empty. Retail has to have some cost for display so I would think you would not want empty space wasted. Yet, every store around here keeps empty space for GI JOE figures.
I could be wrong. Maybe GI JOE sells out quicker than it can be stocked.

Why doesn't Hasbro make sure their product is well stocked? They have employees that go into the stores all the time (I know 2 of them). They know when a section has been empty for months straight. They know when a store refuses to stock their product. Why don't they do anything about it? Does Hasbro enjoy seeing Lanard's Corps figures packed in the GI Joe section (like at my Walmart)? Do they care that their case assortment system doesn't work? Last edited by Steelgrave; 03-04-2012 at 07:19 AM.. |

At least they can make up for it with all the sales from those overpriced Mario statues. I actually heard a kid and dad in target arguing over those today. Kid wanted it and dad said "that's stupid".
I would have told the dad to buy some gi joes for the kid but, alas, none were to be found. I gave up on toys. I got sick of the constant bullshit. I'm sticking with video games. To hell with toys! |

My Walmart hasn't had Joes since the Techno-Viper wave hit. They got 1 case of 30th wave 3 & never restocked after that. Now they have 8 pegs for GI Joe but they're all loaded with Corps. I asked about it & the employee told me that they have to fill any empty space with "something". If they don't have any GI Joe figures, instead of ordering more, they just fill the space with whatever is laying around.
I gave up on toys. I got sick of the constant bullshit. I'm sticking with video games. To hell with toys! What goes in that empty space? "It's a product that does not sell". Why is it empty? "It's for something that does not sell". So you are going to put something else there? "No, it is for something that won't sell, so we don't order anymore". Why don't you remove the space then and put something that does sell there? "it is reserved for something that will not sell so we will not order more. What we had sold so we are finished with it" SO the space? "I told you, it will not sell so when it sold out, we will not order more. The space is reserved for what will not sell that we sold out of. Is that so complicated?"

There is often times something on the pegs around here but generally the pegwarmers. What I don't understand is how Hasbro Toy Shop doesn't ever have any new product (unless you want to buy an entire wave). But then I go to TRU and Star wars has a HUGE display out front and an entire half an aisle in the regular section. Obviously SW sales are going to be higher when the product is so much more readily available. Does anyone have the stats on how much SW stuff is shipped to retail in contrast to Joe?

I think, at least in the case of Walmart it's simply prep for the movie line. They've had 7-8 pegs for Joe since the last reset and not a sign of anything other than Ren. CC.
Asinine to clear pegs that far in advance? I'd say so, but meh. |
