Joe Colton was created in the 1989(?) issue for the 20th anniversary of the orignal 12 inch Joe. He was shown to be the original figure from the 60's and 70's.

Joe Colton was created in 1994 to celebrate the brand's 30th Anniversary by retroactively adding an identity to the original GI Joe action figure from the 60s and 70s.

The name Joe Colton first showed up in 1994 for the 30th anniversary, but the character first showed up in a 1989 issue of the comic. The issue was the one that came in the Viper/Iron Grenadier two pack.
His first figure was a mail-away in 1994...one of the last O-ring figures before the hiatus. |

Yes Joe did exist but not back in the 60's/70's GI Joe toy line, back then it was simply Action man.

On a serious note, a little bit of trivia:
Did you know that Joseph Colton was named after Hasbro's Boys Toys Division V.P. Kirk Bozigian's son (first name Colton)? True story... |
