Hi, I'm a relatively new collector and even newer here. I've read a lot of posts on this board recently about how the toys are hard to find and in short supply etc. Those ARE frustrations and I am kind of surprised at how much stuff I can only get online.
There is something completely awesome about this though. Its that we actually have a lot of figures that I can't wait to get my hands on. A LOT of the figures produced in the last few years are very very good. I loved G.I. Joe when I was a kid, but grew out of them, my mother gave them all away etc. I had even looked at them in stores over the years since the 80's and seriously a lot of what was made in those years was just garbage. I vaguely thought that it was sad that the toys I had so much fun with were being produced looking so bad. Then, this past year in 2011 I happened to see some random figures in Target while looking at toys with my kids and I couldn't believe that they were actually looking good again. Heck, even arctic destro is only maligned in comparison to the other recent figures. I just wish that I'd noticed it when all the 25th stuff was starting to come out. Missed out I guess, whatever. Something does make me wonder though, is this simply a new quality push by Hasbro due to the Rise of Cobra, a new design team, more design time and money? Are we going to see a lot of poor looking figures in the future when the current designers retire or move to making something else? |

Design wise... yes... Joe hit its stride with POC and is rounding the corner and heading for the finish line with 30th. Who knows what Retaliation figs will look like though.

Yeah, I am scared the guy in the workshop who designed the latest midget proportioned Princess Leia figures has the job of Retaliation figure designer. You know who you are. Don't make the figures look like retards unless you intend on also releasing the Sloth (from Goonies) lookalike bonus figure.

Gator,
You took the words outta my mouth. Inventory woes aside, GI JOE fan's are quite spoiled by the quality of today's figures. Here's to hoping that the Retaliation line keeps to the POC standard. |

I'd say they made a great job with POC but if they started to go spiral down again with the Retaliation line then there's something wrong with Hasbro. Nonetheless, I'm expecting for the worst, hoping for the best.

I think the awesome sculpts and quality that has become the gold standard for gi joe will continue for quite sometime. In fact i dont ever forsee it going "backwards" quality wise aslong as Joe's are being made. The ante has been upped and as long as joes are made theres no going back.

You know despite the distribution issues it is a great time to collect. Hasbro has released some of the best sculpted, best articulated, and best accessorized figures we have ever seen in the last year and a half. Figures like Low-Light, Sci-Fi, Life-Line, POC Wave 3 Snake Eyes, Renegades Storm Shadow, and so on that just make you go wow! I only hope that this level of quality continues since there are still a dozen or so characters that I would love to see Hasbo give the "Ultimate" treatment to( characters like Gung-Ho, Flint, Firefly, Crimson Guard, etc. ) Hasbro did state that they will be including classic figures in the movie line along side the movie figures. I only hope they have the same level of quality.

Sure is! I can't wait to see what tricks Hasbro has up their sleeves. The movie stuff might not be that interesting to me, but there's always the stuff after that. Haven't been this stoked about Joe toys in.. maybe ever?
