I am Disappointed with the new Rattler and Conquest.
First the Conquest X-30: I did not have this when I was a child. I stopped collecting in what I conceder the last good year 1985. I saw the Conquest advertised and remember thing “that looks like a cheap piece of crap. Looks cool but also looks cheap”. Now I was only 11 or 12 when this came out. Compared to the Sky Striker it just did not hold water for me. Ok, so today I bought 2 Conquests and 1 rattler. I have to say that my predictions on the Conquest where well founded. It’s the only GI Joe toy that I have ever gotten that I was disappointed in. The plastic and build quality is nowhere near as good as the 82 to 85 GI Joe toys. As soon as you hold it in your hand you realize this. It looks really cool and I am glad to have it because after all it is GI Joe and it is a jet. But I am very disappointed in it. The thing barley stays up strait on the little wheels it has. It wants to fall over to one side or the other. And the top canopy is very cheesy. Oh, and the stickers it comes with are just pure garbage. I can even complain about Slipstream. Why didn’t they make it so his helmet comes off? They have done it on so many other 25th style Joe’s. The Rattler: 1st off I remember the rattler being a little small but not this small. I know it’s the same size as the original but it must have seemed bigger when I was a little kid. When you put it next to the figures and maybe a jeep or two it seems crazy out of proportion. It looks to be the same size as a little prop plane not a big fighter jet. It is just waaaay to small. Same goes for the Conquest but it isn’t as bad as the Rattler. Also, the front canopy and the canopy for the top gun turret are of very poor quality as well as the landing wheels. I don’t remember this being a problem when I was younger. I feel like the wheels and the canopy’s will be breaking off after just a little bit of playing. Hopefully that won’t be the case. Another thing is the turret gun on top, it is held on by almost nothing. If the canopy isn’t shut the gun will just fall out. I have never, ever, talked bad about a GI Joe toy before, but I felt that I had to share the feelings I had when taking this out of the box today. I love having them and will probably get a few more of each but I am very disappointed with there quality. I thought the 25th line was going to be better made with new updates but these fall very short of that outlook. Neither of these two planes have any new cool updates like the wave 1 vehicles have. Ok, I’m done ranting. Last edited by Gatchaman; 09-13-2008 at 03:03 AM.. |

well generally the exclusive stuff has less quality put into them..which is weird cause you woudl think since its a much smaller run they would put more effort into it. I'll judge myself when i get my rattler in hand sunday but since i have no plans to open mine I'll have to take other peoples word...unless i can find a second one to open. :>

Dude, quit bitching! These are freaking badd-ass and we are lucky to even get jets such as these. Looking back when the 25th debut, Hasbro did not plan to extend this line and look at where we are now.

Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. If they suck and you don't like them, wanna sell them?

Wow, thank you for the heads up. I will take a look at them a little closer before I actually buy them. I was already a bit iffy on the Rattler. I have decided I'm not going to buy everything that has the words G.I.Joe slapped on it (oh that's painful to say). I feel duped that I bought a Wild Weasel in a comic pack (with that so/so figure of Ace) now I gotta get another one? I understand that Wild Weasel is the man (with a lisp in fact) but, why would I need two?

I am usually the one saying exactly what you stated, "we are lucky to even get jets such as these. Looking back when the 24the debut, Hasbro did not plan to extend this line and look at where we are now". So I am very, very thankful for what Hasbro has done. In fact in the short amount of time that Hasbro has had I think they have come out with a fantastic amount of great stuff (counting the stuff coming out between now and winter). When looking back to 1982, 83, 84 they didn’t put half as much stuff out as they are doing now. BUT, that doesn't mean I have to think everything they put out is gold just because it's GI Joe. All in all I would still recommend getting them. I just think they could have a little better build quality to them. And I still think the Conquest in comparison to the 82 to 85 GI Joe toys feels cheap. If people disagree that’s fine, everyone is welcome to there own opinion. But that’s how I feel. Never the less they are both still cool toys. What GI Joe army would be complete without them? Last edited by Gatchaman; 09-13-2008 at 04:55 AM.. |

They're bound to look a bit smaller, since the figures are a bit bigger. Plus you were smaller when you saw/held them as a kid, of course! Me, I'm just gonna use them for RAH figures anyway. That's what I do with 90% of the new vehicles we're getting. I've got originals of these but they'll be nice for wingmen...
I'm still in, I just gotta find someone to hook me up, since we don't have Targets in Canada...

Look, I understand that this line has gone on longer than what Hasbro originally anticipated and that Hasbro is trying to get these bigger vehicles out to the market quickly. I also acknowledge that these birds have a pretty damn low price point.
HOWEVER, I gotta agree with Gatchaman. I'd rather these bigger vehicles were more in-scale with the figures and more accurate looking. I mean part of the appeal of the 25th Anniversary line is that these are incredible updates of the old figures, sport much more articulation points, have more removeable accessories, AND stay true to the spirit and design of the original figures. I just wish these vehicle exclusives got the same kind of treatment, update, and "facelift." It kinda sucks that you have this awesome looking Wild Weasel, but he's standing next to an obvious looking "toy" plane. If these bigger vehicle exclusives are aimed at us adult collectors, I'd rather have a Rattler that was a slightly bigger, meaner, more intimidating, and more realistic approximation of the A-10. To those who say this can't be done, compare the vintage/old-school X-Wing and Millenium Falcon to the recent X-Wings and BMF. Which ones look better, more in-scale, cooler, and accurate? I think 25 years of improvements in toy designs and manufacturing can make more in-scale and accurate Joe fighter planes possible. Just one guy's opinion. If you're purchasing these fighters more for nostalgia purposes, that's cool; I'm not knocking on your opinions or your purchases. I just wish the vehicles could make the same leaps and bounds over the originals that the 25th Anniversary figures did for their counterparts. |
