Inspired by Poe Ghostal's annual tradition of reporting how much money he spends on toys each year, I kept a running record of my own in 2011.
Not counting gifts (including Wave 4 from Big Bad Toy Store, courtesy of the greatest wife in the world), so counting only toys I paid for myself: I paid $1,596 for 221 toys in 2011. I had intended to paste the list here, but the formatting from my Word document gets bastard ugly when I do, and so I'll have to spend some time making it pretty first. Keep in mind, the list is hardly perfect; at times I'd take, say, a large order from Big Bad Toy Store, and I'd calculate the total (including shipping) and then average it out across every toy in that order. (For the sake of tallying everything up at the end of the year, that approach sure is simpler!). And then there are eBay lots where I'm not even sure what the hell to call a figure; there are quite a few Arabic figures from Indiana Jones, for example, but when they are part of a lot of 25 Indiana Jones figures and they're all loose, I can't be bothered to get more specific than "Arabic Guy", or whatever. Same goes for the handful of Star Wars figures I happened to buy on eBay. I don't collect Star Wars figures, but whenever I buy something on eBay I try to find other stuff from the same seller to make it more worth my while (I also only ever use Buy It Now), and so if there's a cheap, loose Star Wars figure that looks neat and might possibly be useful for Joe kitbashes, I'll nab him. But when I see Luke Skywalker wearing what looks like a black Tron suit, I can't be arsed to find out his back story or his official name, so he's just "Luke Skywalker" or, if I'm feeling really ambitious, "Comic Pack Luke Skywalker" or something. But enough with the disclaimers. Here it is: I bought toys in California, Idaho, Washington, and Florida this year. I also bought toys in Istanbul and Lahore, but not in Asmara or Islamabad, despite the tempting presence of two Sigma 6 figures in the latter just a few days ago. I used US Dollars, Turkish Lira and Pakistani Rupees to buy toys this year. I bought toys from websites, independent retailers on eBay, generous friends and big box retailers. I logged into my Big Bad Toy Store account in Asmara, Eritrea, in the Horn of Africa (and more recently in Lahore, Pakistan) and ordered toys that were then shipped to my father's house in Washington (or, more recently, Oregon; he moved a few months ago), at which point he opened them and repacked them and shipped them to me. My father-in-law in California provided the same service once, as well. Considering these toys started out in China, they're pretty well traveled! I purchased perhaps a dozen Star Wars figures and twice that many Indiana Jones figures and a few G.I. Joe vehicles and some oddities like "Forest Ghost" keychain figures and bigass dinosaurs and a Transformer or two in 2011, but a comically overwhelming majority of toys I purchased in 2011 were modern-era G.I. Joe action figures. I did not go particularly crazy with troop-building (unlike last year, when I cleaned out a Target's supply of Neo Vipers 'cause they were reduced to thirty-some cents each), but there are several figures I purchased more than once, including every figure in the two Resolute 7-packs. To close, here are some statistics, which I will supply without any excuses or defensiveness or apologies, because whatever one thinks of them, I believe the numbers should say what they have to say without any hand-wringing or blushing on my part: I spent more on novelty items designed for children this year than most families in the city where I live probably spent on food. I spent $1,596 on toys in the past twelve months, and I never once donated to charity in 2011. I spent an average of approximately $4.37 a day on toys in 2011. We have only managed to save $1,700 towards our daughter's college tuition, and I spent $1,596 on toys in the past twelve months. I spent $1,596 on toys in the past twelve months, and my wife and I have agreed to increase our monthly "allowance" from $100 to $150 starting January 2012. I spent $1,596 on toys in the past twelve months, and there are still many, many toys I wish I could have bought. Toys are my primary source of creativity. Toys are the only reason I spend time on the internet; toys are the reason I spend far too much time on the internet. I already have a long list of toys I want to buy in 2012, and a folder on my desktop filled with photos of toys I want to buy in 2012. I spent $1,596 on toys in the past twelve months. I know I spent enough to make my wife madder than hell. That right there is enough to make me cringe. I will venture a guess of 1,000 bucks on stuff this year I spent.

seems very resonable to me. my currrent monthly is 60.00 and im in debt till feb 1, 2012. how much i spent in 2011 shall indeed be dwarfed by 2012. if i receive a bonus as im supposed to this year i'll have 3,000 to spend in may of 2012 alone so i expect this year to be a very spendful year and will most likely remain singletoo. no wife means no one can bitch about my spending so long as my bills are paid so i should be quiet all right in 2012 hell i may take a nice vaca to vegas to see if i can get my toy monies a bigger boost. oh and i spent 40$ on toys for tots, all clearance items that were bought thru out the year

I'd give anything to know how much money the people on this forum spend on Hasbro product in a given year.
