For me, I like army building and setting up pseudo-dioramas of scenes from Marvel, Sunbow, Resolute, Renegades and my own Joe-Verse.
A "pseudo-diorama" is just one to however many action figures posed depicting a moment from one of the above interpretations of the GIJOE-versus-COBRA mythology with minimal to no scenery. I'm also fond of creating new characters through lazy partswapping. The army building thing is a leftover from my childhood. It was actually the TRU-exclusive 6-pack of ARAH-mold blue COBRA soldiers that got me back into GIJOE collecting in the early 2000's when I was just a Star Wars and Lord of the Rings collector. A gift set of COBRA soldiers was something I dreamed about as a child. I should also mention I've made a lot of friends in the GIJOE collecting community, more so than any other fanboy subculture. They have become a big part of my life. I have more "GIJOE friends" in my phone than family members. Yeah... As far as the GIJOE characters/mythology is concerned, it has always been the adversaries I've found most interesting. My favorite character has always been Destro. I used to be one of the '82-86 purists but in recent years mine eyes have been opened to the glory of the 90's neon! In a nutshell, that's what I'm passionate about as far as my GIJOE collecting is concerned.

I like that G.I. Joe can be a hardline realistic military tale or a crazy story wherein ninjas fight aliens. If He-Man is your thing, you're pretty much stuck with fantasy. If you're all about Transformers, you're dealing with space robots. From Adventure Team to Pursuit of Cobra, from Super Joe to Sigma 6, G.I. Joe offers more diversity than most toylines.
Related to the above, I like that most any given character boasts the same diversity as does the series as a whole. Is Shipwreck a cartoon sailor who looks like one of the Village People, or is he a hardcore night-ops Navy Seal? You get to decide. Is Spirit a classic-looking Native American archetype or a menacing, ever-so-slightly crazed-looking, Predator-hunting psycho badass? It's up to you! I also like the relative ease with which one can customize G.I. Joe figures, although I bitterly miss the screw in the back and the lower abdomen being two separate pieces. And while I love love love Sigma 6, now that I'm living overseas I'm grateful for the small scale, 'cause they don't put too much strain on my luggage allowance; I filled one side of a suitcase coming here to Lahore in August. That would have been twenty Sigmas at most, but I fit nearly 200 small Joes in there! The small scale makes it easier to create a world for these figures. And now that there are not only Star Wars but also Marvel figures and more in this scale, there are many possibilities for imaginative play, however one chooses to define "play". |

I like that GI Joe is flexable, more so than other lines like Star Wars or MU. I also like having the lines cross and interact (obviously). But most of all I like when Hasbro really does something I like (ie 30th wave 4) and it all just comes together.

I remember as a kid saving ALL of my birthday money and Christmas money. I remember March was when the new waves for the year would start hitting the shelves.
I was an industrious lad. I made friends with the toy dept manager at Walmart when I was in 4th grade (around 1984) and he would call when new figs were in. Furthermore, he would save me a set of the waves so I wouldn't miss any. It was a hunt. Saving all of my money knowing what was coming. That's what is best about it. For Hasbro I mean. Those were good days eating wild blueberries. The winds smelled fresh before the storm. |

i like the people, the other fans like you that are as die hard for this shit as me. i dont think collecting would feel the same without having friends and others to converse with, its so nice to really have a good joe talk with someone else, for me, that is my favorite thing about collecting.

neon is gold, idk why but i was always a sucker for the neon figs, they stand out so hard its amazing, everything from eco warriors, to mega marines, the v2 headhunter is my fave even tho only his green is bright so not sure if you can count him as a neon fig or not.
