No to Slaughter, from me too.
I liked wrestling back then, and I wasn't initially opposed to Srg. Slaughter when he was introduced. But I never got the figure and I(very) quickly tired of him. Too over the top. Too "larger than life". As others have mentioned, he, Serpentor and Cobra La hijacked my Gi Joes back then, and I don't want it to happen again when the 25th stuff is going so well. I'd rather they brought back the Fridge (not that I want that either). |

Maybe I was just young enough to accept him when he became part of the Joe universe, and I may be a part of a very small group, but I also liked Serpentor, and I also enjoyed Cobra La in the movie.
I know, flame me, but me and a close childhood friend grew up together on GI Joe, and all of that stuff was big for us back then, that even now, it still holds a certain degree of nostalgia that makes me want to collect even the overall despised stuff. One Xmas, my friend got the Renegades pack, and I got the Cobra La pack, and we both had Slaughters, so I remember playing with those figures a ton. Good times, good times.

Well I loved wrestling , but hated Sarge till he was a Joe . I would get him and Fridge ( being a Bears fan) I would even take Big Lob or whatever his name was . He was in the cartoon for minutes and he gets referenced all the time by people. I think poeple will buy him more than wont even though here on the "Tank" he may not be popular. He may also have the rights to his name and likeness like Piper did, so who knows .

Sure, it seems like it should, from a military standpoint. But, when you've got shirtless karate fighters, parrot carrying sailors, freakishly large brutes that speak in rhymes, yee-hawing cowboy pilots, chest-baring, vest wearing, Villiage People dressed marines, and a complete lack of any uniformity of dress code, from baseball jersies to hawaiian shirts, does the Joe team really look like they've ever been under the tutillage of such a characature of an Army drill Instructor? |

And as for people liking Sarge, think about this. It took him exactly 12 seconds to scare Lt. Falcon into calling HIM sir (despite technically outranking him), so he can't be that bad! ![]() |

Its not about Vince mc...man(spelling?)
Its because Jacks pacific, the current company that makes wrestling toys, owns the rights to make Sgt. Slaughter Toys. And they have made several figures of him. Vince will sell to anyone willing to pay. But that property is currently taken. Hasbro would have to pay both parties as well as get permission from the Sarge himself most likely. And piper actually owns his own name, much the Warrior does. |

Yes for me. While I understand that some people would rather see only characters from their prime years as Joe fans, I feel they overlook the fact that just as many fans didn't catch on with Joe until later in the line. If we're being honest here, Sgt. Slaughter played a huge role in the GI Joe universe and ignoring that because of personal bias would be wrong.

I notice the old timers dont like the sarge. they say it "ruined their childhood toyline" While those of us a bit younger are like, eff yah! Sgt Slaughter and Serpentor!
Kinda shows how old people cant accept change lol and too much fantasy hurts their brain. They can accept all kinds of other silly nonsense but a drill instructor is just too much lol Last edited by Dark 5cythe; 08-08-2008 at 06:09 PM.. |
