The Toy line needs to be equaly compelling to it's media tie in. Most of the Things we love as adult collectors hit at the exact right time in our history. The mass market (Kids) aren't stupid when it comes to the limited resources they have to spend on their toys. Think of what you thought sucked back in the day, what you would have been mortified to receive at Christmas, Vs. a Skystriker or Boulder Hill Playset etc., and apply that to what we see in today's toy aisle. There are some fun shows on with lame ass toys (Ben 10 comes to mind).
M.A.S.K. as a cartoon, in retrospect was kinda lame. Thundercats and G.I. Joe, I find them to be very patronizing as an adult. But the Toys, Then and Today, rock.
Indiana Jones, Great Movies, but not very compelling as toys.
The G.I. Joe movie May suck from an adult movie goer standpoint, but the Toys will have a pedigree, and that pedigree is very compelling.

A lot of people including myself were skeptical and pessimistic about the movie, until I actually saw it. Which is why I learned to approach the joe movie with an open mind. If it sucks, so be it, but at least I'll know when I watch it. The changes don't worry me so much as the director. Anyways if it is a success, then it bodes well for more tie ins and a long lasting toy line. Some of the Star Wars prequels arguably sucked but Star Wars toys have maintained a mass market presence.

Gijoe the movie can either end up the way of the pirates of carribean 3 toyline, or like Transformers the movie last year, lets hope for the latter.

Agreed, and good god has Bandai America dropped the ball since halting production of Gundam toys in America. Those were the last good toys they made. Even the new dragonball toys they made had promise til I found out they lack elbows. Elbows? Seriously? On martial arts based anime figures? Are you shitting me?

Agreed. Unlike most of the g1 transformers(Jetfire being one of the rare exceptions), I view most of the RAH gijoe toys as being timeless; toys that I would still enjoy even now. Its rare to say that about any toyline. What fun that could be had with the old Toybiz marvel figures was destroyed when Toybiz launched their Marvel Legends line. The newer Star Wars figures with super articulation have rendered their vintage versions redundant, even the ones from a few years back. The 4H new He man line will surpass the vintage line.

With gijoe you still have vehicles from back in the day that are still fun to play with and unique, and figures too. The anniversary line is excellent, and depending on your tastes, can be intermixed with the old joes, and if not, at least placed in a good number of the old vehicles. Basically the old joe toys are still enjoyable today, and really, what vintage toys are, nostalgia aside? Very few.

Skystriker mold would be expensive to re-make or order up.....hopefully if they do see a great payout or turnout they might go and do it...then they can make different colored ones down the road for the continued line if they decide to proceed with it after the movie

I've always felt that GI Joe was the best toy made, when I was little and even now. I had a lot more Joes than anything else when I was younger and I played with them far more. They had the best vehicles and accessories and the articulation is what really made them great.

I'll never understand why more companies didn't see that and try to make toys with more articulation to match the Joes.
