this might be the wrong thread to ask this in, but is anybody else NOT collecting the vehicles? My shelf space & budget reasons, my 25th is figures-only...
What I love about the figs is that they are so well articulated and detailed- the vehicles (even the new molds) don't update the originals in the same way as the figs. |

I don't collect Joes much at all anymore. Though I did cave and buy a few 25th Vipers (which led me here).
But re-release the TTBP and a Devil Fish and I'm a believer. YOJOE.COM | Transportable Tactical Battle Platform |

I could go for a Moray reissue.
If the Conquest and Rattler do okay.... well hopefully. |

When the 25th line started I said to myself "I hope they don't do vehicles as I haven't the space and won't be able to get them!". Then Hasbro go and put exclusives like GRAND SLAM and CRANK CASE in with the vehicles, and me being an obsessive 'character completist'... What can ya do??

What can ya do?? You could either offer up the vehicles for cheap + shipping or look for trade threads of people dumping the figures. I put up a few here with no takers, so they either went into a box for unwanted toys or given to nephews or my son's friends to play with. |

If they did redo the SKYSTRIKER, and we know Hasbro will have to due to the crapped out mold, they could always make it simpler-No levers, flip down landing gear by finger-not lever. No extra panels, just a swing wing action by hand and a 2 seater cockpit along with missiles. I dont think its that big a stretch as we think. This is an iconic aircraft to the RAH line, it should be back in there and would have been-there were already plans to make it a TRU exclusive, we only got the X-30 due to Funskool screwing the mold on the skystriker. Ive checked, the skystriker is a just a tad bigger than the PTE/EO F-18, it even fits in the same box! There is a big demand for skystrikers, Hasbro could do pre-sells that sell 5-10$ below the price point and in retailers, they could go for 35$ or a bit more, not 50$ tho. The simpler mold, the hollowed out wings, it could definately work. If we do see a skystriker, it definatley wont be out until way after the movie-the 25th anniv. line will be put on hold and the movie line will be underway for at least 6 months or more. I can wait for a new skystriker and I dont want a futuristic one. The old one is worth the wait. If Hasbro would make it so you could park the jet on the shelf without the wings extended, you could easily pack a few onto the shelf.
There is a demand here, the question is how will they do it. If the skystrikers sell then there is still hope for a USS FLAGG. There is no point in doing the FLAGG if you dont have the airpower to back it up. I dont care for the F-22/F-23, I grew up on the skystriker and I would really like to see it back on the shelf. Its play value is still pretty cool imo, it just needs to be a simpler toy like the ELITE OPERATIONS F-18. For 25$ you get 2 figures, bundle of missles/fuel tanks AND a big jet that seats 2, I dont see STAR WARS doing that, do you? Not to mention it but I will, this is about a branch of the military, how many kids and adults can identify with that? |

I agree. The Rattler is to Cobra what the Skystriker is to G.I. Joe as far as icons go. I really hope Hasbro pulls a rabbit out of its hat and surprises us with a new take on the F-14 inspired Skystriker. A simpler mold of the same jet would be phenomenal but the realist in me (this is Hasbro, after all) says that the Skystriker we receive will be a modern jet from either the movie line or latter continued modern line. Since the F-14 has been officially retired from U.S. military service there aren't many kids today who understand the popularity of that jet (G.I. Joe, Top Gun, etc.) so I have a hunch that it won't be remade as we remember it... I guess only time will tell, and I'll gladly admit I'm wrong if it all happens differently.

The F-14 would get eaten alive by the current G5 aircraft.
A great plane for its time and a very cool toy. But there's no way GI Joe would be using tech so far behind the curve in 2008/2009. I'm looking forward to the updated Skystriker, personally. |
