Anyone have any tips on taking photos of the joes? I can't seem to be able to focus on the figs, all my pictures come out blurry with focused background, I think this is my only good picture.

Lighting is a huge factor. Also, does your camera have a macro feature? It really helps when doing close up shots. Don't really put a bright light directly on the figure or surface. Plastic has a tendency to reflect it just enough. If you have multiple light sources try to surround the subject unless you want to try and create a shadow.

also if you can use natural lighting
and make sure your light source is behind you and that you aren't blocking it too and don't be too close to the figure lastly don't use flash (unless you are a good distance away) Last edited by luigi; 09-10-2011 at 02:40 PM.. |

Use a tripod, it really helps. Turn off the flash and turn on macro feature. You don't have to use light tent, check out my gallery, I'm using natural light only.

If your figures are out of focus but your background is not it's because you are too close to the fig, beyond what your camera can handle. So your camera focuses as close as it can, which in this case would be part of the background and no good to you. Try setting the close up/macro setting on and see if that helps (little flower icon). If that's not enough you need a different camera/lens for what you are tryig to achieve.
