It's not Target's fault. Target auto orders more stock from their warehouse when stock hits a certain level. The warehouses don't have any because Hasbro can't supply them fast enough. GI Joe is simply a niche product that happens to be very popular with adult collectors unlike star wars. Now some of you will argue that there are tons of adult star wars collectors but I disagree. Star wars is perennially popular with kids and they go with mom and dad to the store all the time to buy. Hasbro produces enough so that a kid can get a star wars figure anytime.
Adult collectors are more tenacious and better equipped to find what they're looking for. They won't just go to one store, not find what they're looking for and say maybe next time. We'll travel to the next store or ask them to check inventory to find it. Wal Mart happens to have a lot of clout with companies because of the quantities they deal in. I prefer Target but I'm sure Hasbro takes care of Wally first when large quantities hit. I'm not sure if you see them at Target but they put a gray sticker on items that should be scanned for restock and I see these ALL of the time. They just simply have not arrived for restocking. |

I don't think Hasbro hates us, but I for one am wondering where the increased production is.
They also promised it would be by the end of the summer & we're just not there yet, but every place I go now has empty pegs. Well, empty unless you count Serpentor, Cobra Vipers, some version of Cobra Commander, and now, Wild Bill. We'll see what September brings. I would love to be able to walk into a store, pluck what I need off the shelf and be on my merry way. That won't happen with the modern era line. The movie line, yeah. We'll be choking on that stuff 8 months after the movie comes out. And will the movie figures be $7.99 each? I doubt it |

The movie figures probably will be $7.99, like they upped the price before Star Wars Ep 1. they want to capitalize on the movie and make as much as they can in the process. Once the movie furor dies (if there actually is any furor), prices will probably drop again. They are probably doing the $7.99 to get us used to paying high prices before the movie hits.

I just checked out BBTS...most of their single figure orders have changed to PREORDER - SOLD OUT...yikes. I e-mailed them and inquired, we'll see what they say...

I don't think comic pack production has increased over single cards. The targets around here usually only have a couple pegwarmers, and the newest wave is usually gone in a day or two. The walmarts pegs are chock full of wave 1-3 so they don't get any newer waves in.

I heard that you can only find 1 BAT per box aswell. But multipels of everything else. What's sup with that. Why just one? I think Hasbro knows what they are doing and they are doing it.

BBTS for their part says that nothing is "up". They simply sold out that quickly due to increased demand.

I finally broke down and preordered wv 11 from BBTS. I have found everything to date in the store but it seems it is getting harder and harder to get certain figures.

Could it be that Hasbro has increased production, but did not take into account the increase in consumption as more people gain interest? When I go out hunting, I see a lot more 20-30 something guys specifically in the Joe section than I did a few months back. If the line is more popular than anticipated, great. Hopefully Hasbro will capitalize on it not by raising prices but further increasing supply. Unfortunately due to time to market for any changes they may make in plans (mostly due to overseas production and ship times), they may likely stay behind the curve if popularity continues to rise. This will likely only change when they start supporting the movie.
If they don't produce new 'Classic' inspired figures when attention shifts to the new movie/cartoon/comic line, hopefully they will still produce and distribute existing the classics so we can catch up. The toughest thing for most of us (myself definitely included) is to be patient. |
