Why do you guys army build? To you what is the point of buying the same figure over and over again and just displaying it next to another on the shelf? Dios? Unfortunately they don't all come alive at night and have a battle in the middle of your living room so having 60 of them maybe weird to some. Yes it maybe a troop type of figure like a green shirt or alley viper but at the end of the day even U.S infantry don't all look the same.
I have several of some of the figures mainly cause they are my favorite, wanted to do a dio at some point, and I have ocd. I asked on Facebook why they did and you have thought I called someone's mom a bad name.

Just kidding!
Okay, you saw my 100 Cobra Troopers. For me, it's because I like to do dios and display them. As a kid, I didn't have multiple troops. If I remember correctly, no Cobra Troopers or Officers, a couple Crimson Guards, a couple Snow Serpents, one Eel, one Televiper, a couple Vipers and BATs, one Iron Grenadier... So it's been a dream of mine to have more troopers. Where I stop depends on how much I'm willing to spend. So I guess I'm basically trying to make what little dreams I had come true. |

No I was asking for one of those cream filled pastries from hostess. Don't be so sensitive.

Troop building for me goes back to my dad and his toy soldier collecting. Can't just have one infantry type. Just doesn't look right to me, anyway. And as for the US military not looking the same, I've got one story for you. When my son graduated from Basic training, they had the family go into the ranks to find our soldier. Outside of hight and race, we parents had a hard time. The point is,the Army tries hard for the soldiers to look alike. It helps hide numbers and skills and rank.

I only army built to raise the aftermarket prices on those types of figures and make it harder for anyone to find them at retail.
I got 30 Walmart HISS tanks MIB for no reason. I don't really, but I've seen such photos. Those are probably the types who got upset. The old reason was there were more JOES released than Cobras, so army build the nameless faceless legions of Cobra to even the odds. The new reasons are dios and displays. |

I have yet to buy any duplicate GI Joe anything aside from v1 Storm Shadow and upcoming o-ring Storm Shadow.
The gentlemanly thing to do is refrain from army building until enough people had a chance to buy just one. If I do army build, it'll be 2 or 3 of the same figure. |

sbartek's answer more/less sums up the motivation for most of us I suspect, being that it's something we wanted as a kid and is thus something we want now. In my specific case, my collection is intended for gameplay (despite not having seen any in a long time), so having plenty of vipers, green shirts, and the like is important. Or at least, that's how I justify it. In truth, it's probably more to do with the fact that as a kid I was endlessly envious of my cousin's 8 CGs.

See only thing I disagree with is leaving some on the pegs. When I saw the red ninja from retaliation I would buy all of them same with the black dragon ninjas and night vipers at 5 below. Besides how do I know if I leave one that it is either going to be another collector, a scalper, or Carl the comic shop guy that gets it? Only issue I really have is when someone buys all of them to sell. Now the whole taking every single figure on the peg deal I don't like. Like I am not going to buy up all the same Flints or Cobra Commanders taking all 20 figures on the peg leaving them empty. If they had 6 of a figure I would probably grab 2-3 maybe even 4 depending on the figure and leave the rest whether it is a common or only 1 a case. If all they have is two I will not lie. I would take both of them. My personal outlook on it and it may not be the most favorite is "You snooze you loose".
