What's the word on the Phantom X-19 and Night Raven Molds? Are they available to use? I think that both of those designs held up well over the last 20+ years, and would buy a couple of each.

Hasbro said no to the F-14 Tomcat Skystriker also because the actual figher has been retired. They said over on TNI that if they did do a Skystriker they'd rather do a F-23 http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ger71/yf23.jpg , also known as the Storm Eagle but in a two seat configuration, which is what the Joes are using in the Resolute cartoon. They also said the YF-23 would have the same markings as the Skystriker as well.

Hideous.... They can keep it.. They also release one in the Valor vs. Venom line.. I know all to well why they won't release the F-14 due to it's retirement... Dumb Hasbro really DUMB!!!!!
Quote:
If F-14 is not an option, then F-18B would be the best candidate because they are both Navy Fighter planes, and F-18B also has 2 seaters configuration. F-18 is the replacement of F-14, and it makes a lot more sense then F-23. It is really lame that they won't remake F-14 due to it's retirement.....Booooo Hasbro.

Alright folks, now for more information: The Skystriker won't be reissued because the mold is not available. Hasbro said this themselves. A few years back, I inquired about it, and yes it was planned for reissue in 2002. Most fans including myself were surprised to see the X-30 Conquest in its place at the Norfolk con(I wasn't there but I saw the pics online). Remember how the Rattler and Conquest were shown that year at the joecon, and were set for Sound Attack features, and were TRU exclusives? Originally the Tomcat was supposed to accompany the Rattler, not the Conquest. Now, Hasbro went as far as to include the Skystriker quite prominently in their commercial(s) for the 2002 gijoe vs. Cobra line. Now, a good number of you didn't know joes were being made as a new line back then, so some of this information might be new to you. From what I remember of the commercials, the Skystriker has the same exact deco as the original. Now, there were numerous rumors going on, and during the next couple of years I constantly asked about it. The most concrete information was that the mold was retrieved from Funskool in India, whom Hasbro loaned the mold to, as well as many other molds. Now the mold was returned damaged, presumably from improper mold cleaning(I think you are not supposed to use salt water, and they did). Now those of you that collected the TRU RAH exclusives during those years, that used either the vintage figure or vehicle molds, noticed that some of the toys were noticeably looser, and thats the reason why. Even up until this year I inquired about the Skystriker. It was not until a q/a from a few months ago that I finally stopped asking for it, because I learned a definitive answer. The mold was presumably in bad shape when they got it back, and since Hasbro is saying its unavailable, I'll take their word for it. I have been waiting 6 years for that reissue and at least now I know a definitive answer. I don't doubt that the mold is unuseable hell its older than some of us, myself included. As a matter of fact, most of you who know me from previous joe boards know me in part for constantly bringing up the Skystriker and asking if it can be reissued. Sure we have the new Skystriker in the G.I. Joe:Resolute cartoon, and its one hell of a plane to bear the name. Hopefully we get a toy of it, but even so, I want a classic one. I'd love to see a new version based on the classic toy. Can Hasbro do this? Yes. Will they? I hope. They did redo the Millenium Falcon recently, and they also redid the X-Wing a few years back. The F-14 Skystriker is iconic, its like the X-Wing, though in the current timelines, there are aircraft that have replaced it, its a classic. Now matter how awesome the YF-23 will be in the cartoon or as a toy(if one comes out), the old Skystriker is a classic, its selling point is brand recognition. Hell the Conquest and Rattler are highly sought after and those aren't even new versions, they are merely reissues. Imagine an all new Skystriker based on the classic design. Is there room for both the YF-23 and F-14 based Skystrikers? I'd say yes. The YF-23 can fit in both the animated and movie lines. Its a fighter that bests even the F-22 in some areas, and it looks futuristic. Hell you can even throw it in your modern line as an updated Storm Eagle. The classic Skystriker belongs in the modern/classic/anniversary line. I hope we get one. I'd love to say if you guys make enough noise we will, but I truly don't know if thats even the case. Not to be pessimistic, but realistic. It is actually cheaper to make an all new mold, rather than gathering an existing toy, like say a skystriker off ebay, and reverse engineering it to recreate the original mold. |

Does anyone know if the mold for the tomahawk is still intact... That would be a great addition if the skystriker is out of the picture.

The fact that the Tomcat was retired is MEANINGLESS to the Joe verse.

This is a RETRO line, every vehicle and figure made so far has been a direct take on its 80's predacessor.

I had no idea that a plan wasn't in the works, because of the Tomcats retirement.

If they went with a new jet all togther I'd rather see that jet from Stealth. That F-23 is ugly thats why they picked the F-22 also the reason they picked the F-35 instaed of the other one.

i never cared for the skyhawk much. its alright but it just doesnt do it for me. i was hoping they would release the dragonfly. its sad the mold for the skystriker is ruined but mabe one day down the road hasbro will redo it. thats really all we can hope. i never likle the x-19, it looks weird to me. if we cant have a skystriker then a conquest will just have to do for now. i hope that hasbro makes the condor or hurricane vtol. i think those two jets would be a great addition.

As for now, ebay would be my best bet for skystriker. Until, Hasbro decides to re-create the classics, the RAH iconic, and the Top Gun of RAH GI JOE. Perhaps 21st century toys, or BBI will make F-14 since it is listed as American Classics Aircraft - I am just dreaming here.

The Phantom has lived up to its name because I have not heard a thing about it whatsoever with regards to the mold's whereabouts, or its condition. I did hear that the Night Raven mold was lost in Brazil. There is a new Night Raven in the live action movie which is said to resemble the classics one a lot, so hopefully we get a new toy.
Thats not what I heard. I heard that the new Skystriker in the cartoon is a YF-23 and heard nothing about the team wanting to make that over the Tomcat. I doubt the fact that its retired has anything to do with their decision. The 23 is used in the cartoon because Hasbro wants new vehicles used, and they prefer it over the F-22. However I have heard nothing with regards to them wanting to make a YF-23 skystriker toy over a Tomcat one. That was actually the F-22, the plane they didn't want in G.I. Joe:Resolute. Your best bet is to do what I did and just buy the Elite Operations F/A-18 toy at TRU. Its only $23 and comes with weapons, boarding ladder, and 2 pilots, and yes Anniversary ace can fit inside, hell even Wild Weasel can. Thats not why, its because the mold really is unavailable for use. Alright folks, now for more information: The Skystriker won't be reissued because the mold is not available.
