A few years back Joe collectors were treated to the best line of toys we'd had in years. The 25th Anniversary line was fantastic! Great packaging, all classic characters, and the line wasn't too hard to find. We had a taste of an awesome animated serial (Resolute), and we were anxiously awaiting the thing we'd dreamed about for years: A live action feature film! It was a great time to be a Joe fan... or so it seemed.
The movie toys came out: spring loaded weapons, horrible packaging, and a nifty price increase that really turned off collectors. The toys themselves were dull (with very few exceptions). The ongoing 25th/ME collection was abandoned. No follow-up to Resolute ever came into being (Hasbro didn't want us simple minded collectors to get confused... really thoughtful of them). Fast forward to now. We just finished a brief 30th Anniversary line. The figures were amazing. The animated GI Joe Renegades injected new life into the brand. We have a sequel around the corner with box office stars Bruce Willis and The Rock... ... and the 30th line is done. Wal-Mart can't even get the figures at this point. Renegades is gone... at least for now... and no one knows when or if it is to come back. We are gearing up for a Retaliation toy line. The figures will come with fewer weapons and no stands. The packaging is, to put it kindly, generic. We also have a price increase. Seem familiar? It should. |

Don't forget the loss of articulation. I guess the Joe team at Hasbro has this urge to reset all the time, but they may be resetting for the worse this time.

I agree about the 25th line it was great to be taken back and see a remake of vintage figs, also the 30th and renegades line. This new line, idk the packaging is bland IMO. I guess we will have to wait and see when the line is released.

The 25th line was absolute crap at the start, and remained wildly inconsistent at best.

I think people look back on the 25th with rose colored glasses.
I didn't start up until late 2008 or so and all I remember seeing are complaints about the quality of the 25th: diaper crotches, duke arms, etc... The later waves of the 25th were poorly distributed, with some stores not carrying them at all (like the PoC/30th/Renegades) and there was alot of peg warming.
